Toyist Art Hotel Ten Cate

The most remarkable hotel in Emmen or maybe in the Netherlands is situated at the south end of the citycentre in Emmen. In Hotel Ten Cate (in the VT list: Tulip Inn Emmen) you can sleep and dream in a Toyist artworlk. When the former owners took over again the hotel they changed alot to the better. The most spectular was the transformation of the hotel into a colourful Toyist Art hotel.

The Toyism started in 1992 in Emmen by Déjo.The Philosophy of Toyism says that it's not about the artist as individual, but that the art itself is the message. The Toyists work as a collective with artists from all over the world. When they work or present themselves they are wearing masks.
The style of Toyism is very colourfull. All artworks tell a story. The project of Toyist Hotel Ten Cate is called 'Dreams for breakfast'. In april-may 2012 thirteen artist worked together to paint the 600m2 of the outside walls. At the 16th May 2012 the artwork is revealed with many attendees.

You can also sleep in different Toyist rooms like 'Art for ever', 'Night in the jungle', 'Secret of the ocean', 'Spirit of 3 elephants' and for a special occasion ther is a special room 'Dance of love'.

You can be picked up by the Toyist Rolls Royce, of course painted in the bright Toyist colours.

I visit Ten Cate regularly. Good food, lively bar, lovely innergarden, hospitable staff.
But I never spent the night in one of the rooms, because it's only 10 minutes by bike from my house.
