Useful Town Centre Maps
by johngayton
Although Apeldoorn isn't perhaps one of the more popular tourist destinations in the Netherlands it is certainly worth at least a day's visit if you happen to be in the area. Apart from the pretty women (and the phallic sculptures LOL ;)) there's some interesting buildings, a local museum and a host of lively bars and cafes.
The town centre is eminently walkable, being compact and mostly pedestrianised, and to assist you finding your way around there's several of these easy-to-read town maps placed at logically strategic locations. The maps are simple and clear, show all the main attractions and highlight the other useful stuff such as where the railway/bus station is.
The map pictured is on the main road from the railway station just before you arrive in the town centre proper.

go to the Caterplein when the weather is good. There are a lot of nice bars and cafe's where you can sit all day long and stare at the people who walk by. The hoofdstraat in the centre of Apeldoorn is a real must-see for its many shops and nice places to go.
Read your paper (for free)

Our local Library ('Bibliotheek') has a large reading room. You will find a lot of papers and magazines. Off course the most are wrtitten in Dutch, but there are also some in foreign languages like: English, German and French.
Everybody can walk in and read these papers for free.
The reading room is on the right hand side, just behind the main entrance.
The Library is very close to the city centre and is well sign posted.
Travel agency

For every travel you make, you can go to a travel agency or book via the internet.
In the Netherlands you can go to various travel agencies for your next trip. You have to be careful: go to a travel agency that is a member of the ANVR (General Dutch Union of Travelagencies). This organisation is there to garantue your travels. If you book your travels by a travel agency that isn't a member of the ANVR, you won't get your money back when it is going bankrupt.
When I am traveling inside Europe I am booking my trips via the internet. For outside Europe most of the time I will go to a travel agency. The travel agency I use, is Vakantiexperts in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. This travel agency is a small one. But the staff is really helpfull and is informing you really good.
For information about Vakantiexperts, go to the website www.vakantiexperts.nl.

Apeldoorn Canals
by johngayton
As with just about everywhere in the Netherlands Apeldoorn does have a canal, It's a bit out of town, dog-legging around the north-east of the centre but well worth wandering and following if you just fancy the meander.
It does need it's drainage though and so the town planners have included a few watery bits in the centre just to make you feel as if you ARE in Holland (sic ;)).
More an excuse to use these couple of pics rather than a useful tip LOL!
