Arnhem Public Transport

by masterjay

Hi first time poster here o/

I am looking for some help, my friends and i are going to Qlimax 2010, which is held in the Gelredome on 27th November

We will be staying at this hotel Van der Valk Hotel Arnhem, Amsterdamseweg 505, 6816 VK Arnhem, and are looking on how to get from there to the city and back, preferably by bus as its cheaper.

I tried looking on, but got confused as its very limited in english. so if anyone could give us some help with buses and/or prices, we would be very graetful

Hopefully someone will give you a better answer than I can - but me I wouldn't sweat it. Get to your hotel and ask there about the bus times etc. if it's a late finising gig then it may be that you'll need a taxi back but that's something, once again, your hotel will give you the lowdown on.

Enjoy your trip and hopefully you'll get a more useful answer than mine.

The journeyplanner gives a last result of 22.33 from the Arnhem train station for that night (22.22 from the Gelredome at Batavierenweg 25). At what time does the venue end?

Next one is 9.33 next day Sunday the 28th (9.22 from the Gelredome).

OK, just checked the festival times:

Date: 27 November 2010
Venue: GelreDome
Time: 21:00 - 07:00

Well chill out a bit at Sunday morning at take that 9.22 local bus #7 to the Arnhem Central station.
From there take the 9.32 Veolia bus 105s direction Barneveld and get off at the Motel Westend bu stop at 9.46.

Travel Tips for Arnhem

A Bridge too far

by elPierro

Arnhem is probably best known for that Bridge of which they even made movies.

During WW2, the allied forces launched operation "Market Garden" to take control of the bridge in Arnhem and liberate the northern part of the Netherlands. But someone made a small mistake and went for the next bridge. The operation failed and the northwest of the Netherlands had to wait for the whole winter before liberation came. This also happened to be a very harsh winter, with hardly any food to eat except for the roots of flowers.

Many things in Arnhem still memorate to this part of History.

The ''John Frost Bridge ''over the Rhine in Arnhem

by Waalewiener

The John Frost Bridge was build in the 1930's ,1932 untill 1935. This bridge was build to carry traffic from Nijmegen to Arnhem and back.
During WW2 this bridge endured major damage because of the battle of Arnhem which was fought mainly at this bridge.
A Bridge Too Far ,the name of the movie that was made to illustrate the battles fought here. More info at following tips.

Battle of Arnhem WW 2 commemorative gun.

by Waalewiener

During the night a few other troops arrived and by the morning of Monday 18th September Lt Col Frost found himself in command of a force consisting of one Battalion The Parachute Regiment, Brigade Headquarters, one troop of Royal Engineers and a small party of Royal Army Service Corps. Meanwhile the remainder of the Brigade had met with intense resistance and, with the enemy constantly reinforcing with infantry and armour, all attempts to reinforce the defenders of the bridge proved hopeless.

Heavy casualties ,wounded kept in nearby houses.

by Waalewiener

It was only when the enemy, having burned the defenders out of each house in turn, set fire to Brigade Headquarters house, where there were nearly 300 wounded that had to be surrendered, that co-ordinated defence ceased. Lt Col Frost though wounded on Wednesday morning, showed the greatest courage and determination throughout the battle.
It was largely due to his fine leadership that the position was maintained intact for over three days.

Und ein herzlich Wilkommen zu Sandra

by Pavlik_NL

From Essen to Japan by Arnhem, well that's an original route. Sandra, on VT known as "Hundertmorgen" visited us in Arnhem on a chilly Februari day. We talked in Breda-meeting and mailed and as it happens Sandra has this year (2004) the opportunity to go to Japan and I was immediately telling enthusiastically about my trip to this wonderful country. So, to get more closer into the Japan-travelling material we met and chatted about it. Of course only after we spend sometimes in Arnhem centre and Burgers Zoo, a place she wanted to go to already for a few years. It was a great day and ... we'll meet again. That's for sure.
