Travel Tips for Doorwerth

Invitation to walk a lot through beautiful nature

by Pavlik_NL

Through the forests around Doorwerth are many hikingpaths for longer or short distances. The terrain is hilly which gives especialy at theriverside sometimes spectacular views over the Betuwe (=the flat country between rivers Rhine and Waal). A perfect example can be found at the Duno-planes near "Heveadorp" a very small settlement between Oosterbeek and Dooorwerth. Down hill one reaches the castle and a beautiful allee. The river can be crossed by a little (foot and bike) ferry that runs from April to Octobre. Special thing is that it soly runs on solar-energy. The many walks I take here in all seasons and the one time we went picking berries with Irina's sister Anya.

A well-hideen secrets from mass-tourism

by Pavlik_NL

Arnhem and it's vicinity enjoys many hidden secrets from the mass-tourism that takes place in Holland (the western provinces of The Netherlands). However, many inhabitants of these provinces seek out the rest and peace in the Eastern foresty hills of the Veluwe. The endless walking and biking routes give many opportunities to fully enjoy nature in all it's splendour.

The mighty castle along the river Rhine!

by Roeffie

This castle stands on the banks of the river Nederrijn, near Arnhem.

This castle lies in a unique piece of nature. On the banks of the river and on the edge of some hills, pushed until here in by a glacier in the Ice age. The hills are covered with a nice forest. The hills are not very high, but can be called steep.

Great surroundings for a nice walk or bicycle ride.

Doorwerth, living in the foresty hills

"From the castle to a magnificent view"

The village of Doorwerth thanks it's name to the old settlement and castle at the feet of the "Veluwe"-hills on the banks of the river Rhine. The castle is a very pictoresk one that resembles the ones in fairytales. In it now-a-days is the huntingmuseum and some rooms are decorated in the (simple) ways it was done in medieval times. A walk from here shows the splendid and very specific landscape of the part of The Netherlands. On one side the river and it's low landscape, on the other the raising hills that were deposited here in the iceage. The masses of ice lay in the old riverbed and came in Europe until here, pushing enormous amounts of sand slowly but steadily up before them.
