Travel Tips for Rheden
Houses in Rheden
I use to appreciate the places by paying special attention to the common architecture, the house's architecture.
Enjoy some photos... all of them are beautiful and they denote -in my opinion- stability peace, and solidity. Peace and green...
One of the few hairpin-curves in The Netherlands
A beautiful and for Dutch standards, quiet adventurous drive enters the Posbank from Rozendaal (see seperate page). Here one drives through a dense mixed forest and goes surprisingly up and down (it's nicknamed Gelderland's little Switzerland). One of the few hairpincurves in The Netherlands is along the way in a steep descent to the Beekhuizer-valley. Here the climb to the top of the Zijpenberg (107 metres high) starts and brings you to the "backdoor" of the Posbank. The last visit on a wonderful Septemberday with Ilja and Irina. Ilja crawling through the sand and playing happily with everythoing he found. We enjoyed just laying in the late but warm afternoon's sun, having a picknick.
Everybody is riding the bicycles
I have forgotten that Rheden is still in Holland and this is why I was surprised to see in the morning that everybody is using the bicycle to go to the work or school or even the kindergarten... If you do not believe it take a look to my photos. The youngest bicyclist was not older than three years.
Christmascarols at the castle
The family that inhabites the castle for centuries, always does something special with Christmas. All the rooms are decorated in specific styles and colours and in the middlepoint is the Christmas-tree. Outside on the patio with the former stables and personel-quarters, few little Christmas-markets are installed and all kinds of decorative little items, as well as candy and cookies can be bought.
This event is around the third advents-weekend and is often very busy. There's no such thing as reservations, so reckon with waiting in line and shuffling through the magically dressed up rooms while from the top of the staircase soft (live) sweet harpmusic descents on the visitors.
Picknick-basket and -plate
The Posbank-hills on beautiful days is an ideal place to have a picknick. So, pack your basket and fill it with sandwiches and sweets. Fill the thermosbottle with tea and role up the picknick-plate.
