More about Wageningen
Alongside the (Ice-age remnant) Wageningse Berg
older "Dreijen" building
I will be visiting Netherlands soon and I need some information how to get from Amsterdam's airport to Wageningen.
Is the airport a long distance from the train station? Or should I consider traveling by bus? Which one is cheaper/convinient?
Finally, is there any site on the internet where I can find the departure/arrival hours?
Awaiting for response.
Thank you in advance,
Re: Information needed!
This site has all public transport: http://www.9292ov.nl/
It's in Dutch, but you can use it if you have a look at ATLC's tip:
Re: Information needed!
The train station of the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is in the basement of the Plza hall. It's an integral part of the building.
More information at our transportation tips of Schiphol; see:
The train is more convinient; a bus trip will take "forever".
The Dutch train website (incl English travel planner) website is:
On average there are 2 direct trains per hour that will take you to the Ede-Wageningen station in just over 1 hour travel time.
Single fare ticket € 13,70 at the ticket machine; € 0,50 surcharge when you buy a ticket at the ticket counter at Schiphol.
Travel Tips for Wageningen
Green town wit a mixture between old and new
Maybe because of the Agricultural University, but Wageningen always has kept a very natural, green character. On one hand it's lovely fields on the river Rhine's side, one the other hand the green hills that the towns Northern borders contains off. The highest point is the "Wageningse Berg", where also the same named football-stadion is at (Soccer / FC wageningen).
Another typical thing for Wageningen is the mixture of buildingstyles. New and old go hand in hand without "hurting" the eyes of the visitor. The centre is generally old-orrientated, the institutes house in modern structures. Biking to Wageningen for a drink on one of the cosy terraces is always a joy.
5 May Festival
Every year, on the 5th of May, celebrates Wageningen the surrender of the German army in 1945 with a geat 5 May Festival. The whole town is till midnight full of music, artists, theater and so on. Every body, also kids, can find activities.
Agricultural University (maybe world's famoust )
Wageningen has - besides "liberation-town" of The Netherlands also a name in world standard. In Agricultural education everyweher in the world one knows about the Agricultural University of Wageningen (LUW = Landbouw Universiteit Wageningen). Not only the University itself, but all related institutes are settled in and around the town, making it a centre of knowledge and exploration of everything agriculture stands for. Students from all over the world fight for a place on this university and it can well be compared with the stadards that Oxford has in the more general universities.
University and all institutes are in close cooperation in the WUR. Below you find the webaddress for more information.
Concerts on the 5th of May
Here's the place to be on the fifth of May. The concerts in Wageningen have "world"famous (within The Netherlands that is - (-: ) artists attending and masses come to listen. Their also the "helicopter-act" that one band has the dubious honour of experiencing. The start in Wageningen to then immediately fly to the next town for a concert there. This goes on the whole day until they rounded up many places where liberation / freedom-day festivities are in The Netherlands. An exhausting job!
Skating, not for non-swimmers...
If the frost is strong enough for about a week, which has become rare in recent years, many Dutch will take to the canals, small lakes or (deliberately) flooded fields for their favourite winter sports: skating. The brave even take to the deeper waters, which still have open patches, like this one, next to the Rhine river. So you better take care, if you can't swim... skates, though sometimes a sleigh, some simple boards and a chair (to sit on and to "stabalize" the beginner) can be of help...
