by rsilva We were in Groningen for a concert and were going to stay for only one night, so we wanted something central and decided to try this hotel. It is conveniently located, but not right in the center. You still have to walk 5-10 minutes to get to the main square, which is not a problem if the weather is nice. The lobby is quite nice and the bar/waiting area is nice and stylish. Our room was nice, quite large and with a good view (see picture), at least as nice as you could get as it was overlooking the center. Check-in went very well, the person was very nice and friendly. However, we had some issues with the service after that: I went down to talk to the "concierge" or someone at the reception and was greeted by a girl that, although nice and friendly, knew nothing about Groningen. I asked for a restaurant suggestion and she pointed at the hotel restaurant and said: "There"... We also had a malfunctioning safe in our room and were in a hurry to leave, so I called the reception and asked for someone to come and take a look at it. I was told someone would come right away, but we waited over 20 minutes and no one came, so we left. I later sent an email to the management expressing my dissapointment with the service and I actually got a reply with an apology and an offer to return at a reduced rate. This is fine with me as I am sure this is not the level of service they offer. I would consider returning here. Since it was a weekend, we got free parking at the Hospital parking right in front of the Hotel. As far as I know, parking is paid during the week. At 89 Eur (special weekend rate), it is not exactly cheap, but it is average for the Netherlands, and breakfast is an additional 13Eur/person.
