4th bi-annual Maastricht meeting

by Imaniac

After three successful meetings in 2003, 2005 and 2007 it is time for the 4th
bi-annual Maastricht meeting. The date has been set for Saturday August 29.

This meeting will be a culinary delight. Maastricht is known as a city where
people enjoy life to the fullest, take things slowly and spend their evenings
wining and dining.

This weekend also hosts a culinary event Preuvenemint, where you can sample
different dishes from many local restaurants.

During the day we will also stop in a few shops, pubs, restaurants, bakeries
etc, to sample some great local dishes, coffees, drinks, pies etc. There are
beautiful pies at the Bishops? Mill, you can buy the best coffee at Blanche
Dael, we could also make our own pies, have a tour through a wine cellar or
visit a local brewery.

Please let me know if you want to attend, or sign up at:

I truly can recommend this meeting (and Roy's culinar skills are beyond imagination).

I'll have to see if it can be squeezed in next to my other activities.

Update:

We will start the day between 10:30 and 11:00 at the main train station in the little restaurant inside, where we will meet up. From there we will go to the city centre for a cup of coffee in a very special location. Later we'll have a old fashioned lunch at the old bisshop's mill. There are a few special stores and delis along the way where we can sample some local products. If weather permits we'll sit outside for a taste of the famous local fruit pies.

In the evening we can enjoy the Preuvenemint. A culinairy festival where you can sample dishes of many local restaurant. At 22:00 there is a performance by the great Dutch soul singer Berget Lewis. After that I'll probably call it a night.

Travel Tips for Maastricht

St. John's Church.

by hassan_abu

Try climbing 220 steps all the way up the tower and have a magnificent view of Maastricht.
You pay Euro 1.50 to go up (with the stairs) and its free to get down the other 220 steps. Splendid view of the city

City Tour

by Erkmen

If you visist the V V V tourist office in Maastricht, there you can ask a city tour guide. You receive a map which has a description of the places and a walking path..

If you obey the path, you will have a chance to see many important points in the city and read the desciptions.about those places.

Picnics in the Park next to the City Wall

by karinyeung

Take a trip to Albert Hein. Pick up some bread from a bakery. Take some cheese and fresh deli meats from various lovely stores in the centre. Grab a bottle of wine... Head to the park by the city walls. Check out the animals. Enjoy the beauty of Maastricht!

Vrijthof - historical place

by Luchonda

Church St-Jan and Basilic St Servatius. Those historical churches are called by the locals, place of "Hell and Heaven" and separated by a small road, called "Het Vagevuur" (dutch for purgatory)
Both churches were erected by marl stones, easy to get because stone hewers got them in the caves near Maastricht

Faliezusterpark

Maastricht has many parks, but this park has the best senery. Its a park that is located next to the old city wall and some of the cities most interesting buildings. For example the bastion called "Vijf Koppen," the Helpoort and the "Pater Vinktorentje" Its a very relax place, especially in the summer. Just hang around there by the cool water from the bassin and relax
