Re: train ticket price

Cheapest way to ravel from Maastricht to Paris is local train to Liege-Belgume (return €6.80) and from Liege-Gulliames Train Station get the Thalys train (super fast)to Paris,
Thalys goes from Cologne to Paris via Aache,Liege, Brussels, LIle to Gare du Nord in Paris.
chek www.thalys.com/en
for cheap deals if you by the ticket few weeks in advance.
Last time I traveled, I got my ticket 5 weeks in advance and paid €15 one way to Paris.
Chek tem out.

Re: train ticket price

The route is indeed local train to Liege, and then train to Paris. However I would advise you to buy the ticket on www.nshispeed.nl. They sell tickets Maastricht - Paris for the same price as Liège - Paris would cost when bought on the www.thalys.com website. You get the Maastricht - Liège part for free this way :-)

Currently the cheapest available is 25,- when booked 30 days in advance. Cheaper tickets are sometimes available, but only as part of a special promotion...

Parks along the City Walls

by Imaniac

When you want to take a walk along the city walls, make sure to do it on the side that has all the parks. Starting from the Maas, just after Hell´s Gate, turn to the right. You´ll find a couple of parks here that take you along the old city walls and the river Jeker. You´ll find lots of animals there, like ducks, geese and seagulls. And there is also a small animal park with dear, goats, pheasants, peacocks and other small animals.

D´Artagnan

by Imaniac

A lot of people know D´artagnan as one of the famous musketeers. What many people don´t know however, is that he lived in Maastricht for a while. This year there was a huge D´Artagnan Festival with performances and special city walks amongst others. In that period they also revealed a new statue of him. You can see it in the Aldenhofpark

The City's Main Square

by johngayton

The Vrijthof is the city's main focus for both locals and tourists. The eastern side is a row of terraced cafes which face the twin churches of St Jan (with its distinctive red tower) and St Servaas. Also around the square is the former Spanish Government House, the old Customs House and the Vrijthof Theatre.

On the square itself are several monumnents and a bandstand and these make ideal meeting points and the square is often used for local events and concerts.

The fortifications........

by Roeffie

Maastricht has still fortified walls to protect the city, a lot of it is damaged, but here and there you can see some beautiful remains of it. On the postcard you see 'the entrancegate< 'Poort Waarachtig'.
