A Botel, as the name implies, is a boat that is used as a hotel. In a place like Maastricht, which apparently has a shortage of inexpensive hotel rooms, a Botel is a good way to provide additional accommodation on quite short notice and without any huge investment.
Of course the cabins are small, very small. Not all of them have en suite facilities, but some do. I paid 35 Euros per night for a cabin which did, in fact, have its own shower, toilet and wash basin. This was exactly half of what I would have paid for the least expensive hotel room on land.
Breakfast was not included, but was available for an extra 7 Euros and was well worth the price.
At the entrance was a sign in English saying that smoking and drug use were prohibited on board, and that there were smoke detectors throughout the boat. Anyone who did smoke and set off a fire alarm would be charged 300 Euros if the fire department came unnecessarily.
I had expected that the Botel would be crowded and loud, but this turned out not to be true. I don’t even think it was fully booked when I was there, which might have to do with the fact that foreigners can no longer legally buy cannabis or other soft drugs in the three southern provinces of the Netherlands, including Maastricht.
In any case, I found the Botel very pleasant. The staff and the other guests were all friendly, polite and quiet.
Another advantage was that the Botel was docked in a very convenient location, just 90 meters upstream from The High Bridge and only a short walk or bicycle ride to the historic center of the city.
Wonderful hotel in just 2-3 kms from the City Centre. The Hotel is run mostly by Hotel Management School students, so don't expect everything to be perfect, but for the price it beats every hotel in Maastricht. The Hotel is a castle somewhere from the 12th century, and renovated as a desing hotel. Really good experience with good food and fairly good services!
The rooms were outstanding! We were there 2 nights and changed the room between those nights. Every room is unique, professionally designed and extremely comfortable! The Castle as an environment was like non-other hotel I have ever visited on!
I stayed here two weeks in a caravan and my stay here was very good.
- Heated swimming pool
- Small shopping market
- Children's Playgound
- Bar with dance floor
Nicest place I ever visited. Lovely rooms with a view of the river.
Great atmosphere and very safe and clean.
prices wise more expencive than avarage, but is wort it as everything is close by, and the Old City gates are just across the road.
Great veranda from the restaurant overlooking the river, where you can have your dinner, and relax with friends.
Great decor too.
This bed and breakfast was the highlight of my trip to the Netherlands earlier this year. Just a minutes ride into the center of the town, we were close enough to enjoy a nice stroll around town but far enough to enjoy a quiet night surrounded by beautiful lush landscapes. The facilities were immaculately clean. Definitely a refreshing contrast to busy and rundown hotels you usually stay at when you travel in Europe. I noticed it wasn't listed on this site, perhaps it's a local treat, but if you ever happen to be over in the +31, I would highly recommend putting aside a day or two here.
The cottage on the other side of the courtyard. A beautiful two story apartment with privacy and quiet to spend with a few loved ones. The owner, Ruth, is extremely helpful and accomodating. Her and her husband, Eddie, can cook a mean breakfast!

This hotel is a very popular hotel amongts tourists, but it is a bit uninteresting as a building, moder, concrete, boring outside appearance. But it is in 5 minute walk from the centre. They have a tourist information service inside, which is special. Free internet use and a library are also avaiable. The bar is a bit uncozy, doesn’t invite to hang out for longe.

In the region of south Limburg you have the unique opportunity to stay at a castle. Near Maastricht you have the Vaeshartelt castle. A palace that is surrounded by some 7 hectares of English gardens. It has a long lane that leads to the castle. Inside there are many salons in classic style. The castle had once belong to King Willem the second. its a 17 th century castle where modern elements of architecture are mixed with the old.
All the rooms have their own colous. They have douches and a bureau. The castle has a terras. And the hotel has its own restaurant callled "de sterrenhemel"
The du Chene is on the edge of the city centre and is within walking distance of everything you'll want to see in Maastricht.
