Trains or buses from Aachen to Roermond

by cricri44

Are there any train or bus line going from Aachen to Roermond, I'm travelling from France and the cheaper way for me is to take the Thalys up to Aachen ( my final destination being Swalmen).
Thank you very much

You can go by train.

http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml

will give you train times and details in English. No fares though, for some reason, probaby because you will have to change countries as well as trainsen route.

Journey time is around 1.5 hours.

You can get a train to Swalmen from Roermond too.

Takes 4 minutes.

Netherlands railway website in English:

You have few choices how to get to Roemond, wich is abut 55km from Maastricht & 90km from Aachen,
Take Bus from the Hbf in Aachen to Teaterstrasse, or in front of the Hbf, eather way bus 50 will take you directly back to Maastricht via Gulpen & Marghraten to Maastricht Train/Bus station.
Euroregio ticket €5 for a whole day.
From Maastricht Train station train to Roermonde.
its lots of trains a day go via Roermonde to many places in Holland from Maastricht.
chek www.9292.nl for timetables & train bookings.
For info on Aachen www.aachen.de
for info on Maastricht www.vvv-maastricht.nl
hope this helps

If you're coming from France, and going by Thalys, why not get of at Liège in stead? I doubt that if you can get a cheap ticket to Aachen you wouldn't be able to get on to Liège.

Liège - Roermond is one hour by train, and trains run every hour. You'll need to change at Maastricht however.

Travel Tips for Roermond

Lots of Construction

by BillNJ

During my brief visit of the city of Roermond, I noticed that there were a lot of construction sites. One big project was in the vicinity of the MacArthur Glen Designer Outlet Center. There were also construction sites for luxury homes in the vicinity of the harbor.

The P.J.H. Cuypers walk

by OlafS

The tourist-office VVV sells a small booklet about architect P.J.H. Cuypers and his work in Roermond. Actually the architect didn't do a lot in his city so objects by his followers and his son are included as well.

Although called a walk there are no directions included so you need a map and some time to figure out your way. You do get to see a lot of the city, including interesting places you probably wouldn't find by coincidence, so I recommend the walk also when you're not interested in Cuypers but like to see old buildings anyway. I'm not sure if they sell the booklet in other languages than Dutch too, but given the increasing international interest in Cuypers's work it would seem smart if they do.

The local beers

by OlafS

Brewery St. Christoffel was founded in 1986 and quickly established itself a place on the market of better beers. Christoffel Blond was the first beer made by this brewery, although it was simply called Christoffel then, and it was awarded the prize of Best bottled beer of The Netherlands three times. Its alcohol level is 6% and it has a hoppy flavour that is unusual for a beer from this country.
Robertus is the second beer. It is as strong as the Blond but more dark in colour. Because of the use of darker malt taste is a bit more sweet.
Both beers are made according to the German Rheinheitsgebot, which means malt, hop and water are the only ingredients. The beers are available in bottles of 0,33 and 2 liters. many bars in Roermond and surrounding area serve these beers, while many shops sell them. They are also exported to several countries.

A few years ago Christoffel also offered a mix of beer and apple juice. I don't think it was much of a success.

Music pavillion

by nighthawk

If I remember correctly this late neo gothic pavillion is a nice remainder of the old days....hahah I d better go look it up, this does not sound right.
I had a problem taking this photograph for the local political parties had put up stands to promote their views. Due to this I had little room to take this photograph from a decent enough angle.
