Although they advertise with posters that there is a theme of knights in this cave, it really is not much more than a few statues of knights. But if you like Xmas markets: just visit this market and enjoy .

During our weekend away we had 2 possibile activities to do... We choose to go biking in the caves. The entrance of the cave was a small building which had the last restrooms for 1,5 hours....
From there you have to descend a circulair staircase down into the cave.
Before leaving on your bike you'll get the chance to drink or eat something be sure to take some cons with you because there are only vending machines.
Before going on the 1.5 hour biking trip in the caves you will receive instructions on how to check if no one is missing from you group.
Then its putting on a hairnet and helmet before the trup start. Believe me the helmet is really necessary....
Temperature in the cave is a constant 12 degrees celcius.
During the trip you also get the chance to take some pictures and learn a little bit more about the caves. A bike and helmet are provided...
The last stop before heading back to Valkenburg can be Kasteeltuin Oud Valkenburg, a garden owned by a nature eduction company.
There is also a watermill on the premisses.
The garden is open from april 28th to september 29th from 10:00 - 16:00
This is another cave in Valkenburg where you're welcome to visit the xmas market.
Compared to the Velvet Cave this is an experience of angels, a lot of xmas lights, snowmen and father xmas. A totally different feeling to the magic of the Velvet Cave.
I like the historic ambience though, so on we go, exploring the market!
The Town Cave sells a lot of cheap tacky everday-market stuff, next to overpriced leather goods, linen, shawls and clothes. But maybe you're looking for 'upgrade' tableware of something else a bit more pricy: then this is the place for you.
The cave also has a restaurant and toilets on site and is accessable for wheelchairs.
This year's xmas market runs from 16 November until 23 December.
Entrance fee adults €3,50.
In 2008 the Town Cave will open again for regular tours.

"Mergel" or chalk rock is very common in this region and used for centuries by the people of valkenburg and wide surroundings. Though the rock is quite easily to use, the strength is not that perfect. After the centuries past away, the roch often erodes quickly and whole buildings are becoming dangerous to live in. Still, Valkenburg holds many examples of historic "Mergel"-architecture, such as the gates, parts of the citywall and of course the castle.
