Cave Drawings
In the municipal cave you will find a lot of drawings on the walls. Most of the time they are made from charcoal. It's amazing that they have lasted for so mant years. The miners used to draw the paintings to prevent boredom.

Hi all
I'm planning a trip to Valkenburg and surroundings early december.
Can anyone recommend me a cosy b&b with a fireplace, no tv and a great breakfast with pindakaas? you know what I mean :)
If not, any comments on 't Vakwerkhuis and Kasteel Schaloen, those where to two places on the website of VVV Zuid-Limburg that I liked most.
Offcourse I would like to visit the Christmas market in de gemeentegrot and the fluweelengrot (found all information on the Valkenburg Kerststad website) but I also would like to go hiking or biking in the area. Any tips where to go for fantastic views? Can I rent bikes in the neighbourhood?
Thank you, groetjes Elke
Hi Elke,
My husband and I stayed for several weeks at a cosy place called Het Dal just opposite the Klimmen railway stn. so we often took the train into Valkenburg. The place is family run and quite reasonable. You can check this out if you wish. I can assure you you wont be disappointed.
Best wishes.
Hi Elke,
Try this one ... the absolute summit in romance in Zuid-Limburg.

When you walk through Valkenburg it is almost certain you will encounter a group of people partying. They celebrate different things but all have a great time.
This group is celebrating the 50th birthday of the man sitting in the chair.
I don't often visit graveyards, except when they give me a nice view at an otherwise hardly visible side of a church. But I couldn't resist seeing this one a bit closer. There's a nice neo-Romanesque chapel as well as a group of neo-Gothic family tombs. And all made of marlstone, which always looks attractive, especially when the sun shines on it. Evidence that graveyards do not always have to be depressing and spooky places. This one definitely wasn't meant to be one!
The restaurant Latinos has some great Cuban / Spanish food. Their tapas plate is just unforgetable. You can choose between tapas with fish, meat or mixed. Beside that they have other dishes which are great.
The terrace is at the end (or beginning, depending where you come from) of the Grote Straat. The only down point is you have to order a meal when sitting at the terrace after 4pm. So if you are looking for a nice place to have a drink take another terrace in this street, there are some pubs too ;-)
De Halder is not everyone's idea of a castle, but that's just what it's called anyway. It has its origins in a 14th-century defensive tower and in its current shape as a house dates from 1635. Oh, and of course it was built of marl.
