Travel Tips for Valkenburg

by tompt

In and near Valkenburg you will find many signs of the strong roman catholic religion that is traditional to this region.
Statues of holy persons on buildings and crosses along the road sides.
We encountered this cross just outside of Valkenburg, leaving it via the Steenstraat. It gave us something to think about.
The insription says:
Geis te links of geis te rechs,
keeze mos te zellef.
Miech kens te euveral taegekomme.

Although this Limburgs dialect it is easy to translate for dutch people:
Go left or go right,
you have to choose for yourself.
You can encounter Me everywhere.

Just for the record: we did go to the left on one day and on an other day to the right.

Horseback Riding

by Sprucebeer

Perfect setting for horseback riding! No better way to enjoy the natural beauty of this region with trails along the River Geul. I’m pretty sure you could book your riding through the Hotel De Geulhemermolen or at least they can give you some information. Well you need a horse hahahhaha. Look at that horse there... he wants you to take him for a ride :-)

Herds along the Geul

by tompt

In this picture you see some of the horses that roam the Ingendael nature reserve.
The horses are Polish Koniks, a small Polish horse, kind of wild pony. The koniks are good grazers. They keep the landscape open and a natural forest will evolve.

There is also a herd of oxes wich you can see in the next picture.
