Will be traveling to Venlo from USA and visiting Floriade in 2012. What is best way to get to Venlo from Frankfurt? Would prefer not to rent car.

Re: Transportation

If you prefer not to rent a car than train is the best option. However, it is far to early yet to look up train times. You can asume however that there will be a train from Frankfurt to Venlo roughly every hour, usually with a change in Düsseldorf.

Re: Transportation

There is an train from Dusseldorf to Amsterdam going via Venlo,as one option.
If you get train from Franfurt to Krefeld than change to an train or bus to Venlo.

Another way is to take train from Frankfurt to Aachen, than from Aachen via Maastricht to Venlo train again...

The link Macedonian gave (http://journeyplanner.9292.nl/) is very useful for all public transportation within The Netherlands.

For all train schedules (in Europe even), use www.bahn.de (or English: http://www.bahn.de/i/view/GBR/en/index.shtml)
This includes the Dutch train schedules which can also be found on the Dutch rail website: www.ns.nl (or English: http://www.ns.nl/cs/Satellite/travellers)

Venlo has a train station.

Keep following the news on the official website:
http://www.floriade.com/?sc_lang=en-GB

Once the date draws nearer, there will doubtlessly be advise on how to get there. Possibly with shuttle buses, etc.

Travel Tips for Venlo

A bit of wall

by OlafS

It's my guess that this is what remains of Venlo's city walls. A guess, because there was nothing that indicated what exactly this is. It's not much anyway. It's not even impressive. Far more interesting were the excavations that were under way just behind them. However, I was disturbed when I looked at them, as someone approached me and asked me something in broken German. When he understood that I had no idea what he meant he apologized and left. Later I heard that at this place pushers meet their clients who come to Venlo for drugs. Perhaps I should shave more often.
