Support the Giants

by Pieter11

Since 2004 there is a professional basketball team in Bergen op Zoom. They play in the Dutch first division agianst teams like Amsterdam, Groningen and Rotterdam. It is really nice to go and watch a match if you are in Bergen op Zoom. Just check the internet site to see when they play and visit the match. Entrance fee is only € 6,-

anyone remotely fit should go cycling in holland

i have seen old fogeys cycling away on highways like tour de france contenders..

hence i had to take the challenge and with my good friend and fellow vter radhika, we ventured out on a 40km bike ride

it was an experience which i think i might do again but with a padded seat and ear muffs..

padded seat for the cycle and earmuffs to save the ears from the fellow vters constant mutterings.. ;)

tthe map i have was an extremely sceneic route..plantage which supposedly means nature trail..

we hired cycles - 6-7 euros a day from bergn op zoom and after much map readin and direction findin like 2 intrepid explorers we finally hit the trail..

i strongly suggest such an adventure for all people headed to the netherlands...

for more info contact me and i shal give you the lowdown

the end

Bergen op Zoom is a place...

by conny_bazen

Bergen op Zoom is a place between woods and water !!!(take a look at the travelogue)
When you are at the trainstation you walk in less than 30 minutes to one of the woods OR to the water !!
So what you want to do ??? There is a lot possible...

St. Gertrudis church

by OlafS

The St. Getrudis is the major church of the town. After a first church was built in the 13th century, several attempts have been made to build a bigger church. The current church roughly dates from 1470. Originally a basilica, in 1750-1752 the clerestory was removed, turning the church into a pseudo-basilica. In the same period the lantern on top of the tower was built. The church was one of the last churches stolen by the protestants to return to its rightful owners, as the protestants continued to use it until 1966. During the big restoration that followed a fire destroyed the interior and the roof. The catholics had to wait until 1987 before they could finally use the church.

It has become a tradition every year with carnaval to dress up the tower.

A citywalk..........

by conny_bazen

In june Pieter (floss1) and Raewyn visited my hometown. We made a citywalk. This picture is made by the goat. The goat is important with the carnival: every year when the carnaval starts at november the 11th all the people come together by this little statue.
