De Drie Scheepkens B&B: A hidden gem
For our visit to Bergen op Zoom we had to travel by train. So we were looking for accommodation on walking distance from the railway station as well as the main sights in the city.
After a lot of surfing on the internet we were very happy to find "De Drie Scheepkens Bed and Breakfast". It is located right in the heart of Bergen op Zoom, just 200 metres from the Grote Markt (the main square of the city) and a little bit more than 5 minutes from the railway station.
The Engelsestraat, referring to English merchants, is a quiet street, lined with nicely restored monumental houses.
The B&B has just three rooms, one of them on the second floor and two others on the third floor (there is no elevator). It is not allowed to park cars on the streets around the B&B, but they have a (paid) place available; otherwise you must use one of the (paid) parking lots a bit further away.
We did sleep in the very spacious Superior Suite on the second floor, which had a very good bed and en suite a beautiful bathroom with even a Jacuzzi. The toilet is situated right next on the course. The room has all necessary amenities.
Making a more or less last minute booking we got this room by paying the rates of the other smaller rooms.
Breakfast is served in the breakfast room and was – as expected in the Netherlands – very Dutch, which means various, extensive and tasteful. It was every morning an excellent start of the day.
There is also a nice ‘city garden’ with some seats for relaxing or just reading a book. During our stay the hosts of De Drie Scheepkens organized a barbecue for the guests (as well as for the guests of another B&B in town).
The location of the B&B; nearby the Grote Markt and all the main sights of Bergen op Zoom.
Although located in the city center it is an absolute quiet neighbourhood.

Squeaky clean and renovated a few years ago.
See also Restaurant tip.
Check the prices on reservation as their website is a little outdated.
Well, the great view is on the Markt (central square). Hotel is right next to the Town Hall.
