Easy on the Budget, At The Edge Of Town
It used to be called "Jeugd Herberg" or in Dutch "Youth Hostel", and now it is part of the Stay Okay Franchise. Clean, safe, good meals, and even a bar and common area for meeting other travelers. Bicycles for rent, which make for fun excursions to the nearby country side. There are also family apartments with kitchens available, meant for four or five people. I stayed in a room with bunk beds, with three other people, and actually slept as well as any night I stayed in the country. The Stay Okay franchises are a bit more expensive than some hostels, but you get a bit more, too: Clean linen in cellophane packets; big hearty breakfasts with all you can eat; key cards which limit access to sleeping areas so you can feel safe. The downside of the ultra organized quality is that it is a bit regimented and institutional, and frankly the staff is not used to people who have never stayed at a hostel before (I hadn't). Ask a lot of questions and make note of what and when you get with your chosen package of amenities, else you might miss out on something (they made me dinner and I wasn't there, for example).
