Breda to Rijen

by LaurenK

Hi There,

I'm travelling to The Netherlands in a few weeks to work in Rijen for 3 days. I was hoping to stay in Breda for the duration of my stay rather than in Rijen as there is a better choice of accomodation in Breda. I was wondering how easy it is to get from Breda to Rijen. I know that there is a train station in Rijen but I would still have a relatively long walk in the cold and possible snow to my place of work (Ericsson). How much approx would a taxi to Rijen from Breda cost each day? Or altrenatively is it possible to get a taxi from the Rijen train station to my office?

Thanks in advance,

Lauren

According to the public transportation website you can take a train ( 2 per hour) to the Gilze-Rijen station. From there it's a 9 minutes walk to the Ericsson building.

A day return train ticket = € 4,10.

An alternative is to take bus #131 of the Veolia company to the Ericssonstraat busstop in Rijen. From there it's a 4 minutes walk.
A single fare = 5 "strippen" of the "Strippenkaart" (about € 2,43)

You could contact local VT-member MATIM, who will know more ins and outs.

Meeting friends........

Meeting some VT-friends is a good reason to visit a city like Breda. Here I met Ilse (MATIM) and Myriam (myriam_c) and we had a drink at the Grote Markt. The Grote Markt is a good place to hang around when the weather is fine.

Breda Tip

by Wenasje

I have special memories of the the place where I lived; Breda Noord, 'Hoge Vught'. I lived in an apartment in this area and this was my first experience of living on my own. I shared the apartment with my friend Carole, who now lives in Portugal, and it was a great experience indeed!

The picture shows the area where our apartment building was also situated.

The Nassau-Baronie Monument

by Nathalie_B

Breda has strong connection to the Royal House of Orange Nassau . In the 15th century the German count Engelbrecht van Nassau married the heiress of the first Lord of Breda. Right at the entrance to the Valkenberg Park you?ll find the Nassau-Baronie Monument, which was ceremoniously openned by the Queen Wilhelmina. The shields which can be found at the bottom of the monument used to belong to small municipalities in and around ancient Breda.

On warm summer days you can find sun worshippers and water sportsmen at the Galderse Meren ( Galder lakes ) and the Asterdplas. Swimming or sailing, on a surf board or in a rubber dingy. Canoers can also enjoy themselves on the canals of Breda or on the river Mark.
