Stadshotel De Klok: Perfect Location But A Bit Pricey
Breda seems to have a shortage of reasonably priced, central hotels and this was the cheapest I could find (using booking.com) within easy walking distance of the railway station and with free Wi-Fi.
I'd arrived too early to check-in on a cold, drizzly, March morning but dropping my bag off was no problem once I'd found the reception - which is tucked away in a corner of the busy ground floor restaurant with no obvious signage.
With a couple of hours to hang I had a pleasant wander around the city. The rain, however, soon forced me indoors - which is my excuse for ending up in O'Meara's!!
Checking in later that afternoon, in quite a mellow mood despite Scotland losing at rugby, was a pleasure with a friendly, helpful, receptionist who simply charged my card and handed my room key along with instructions about the night entrance and breakfast times.
In order to get to my attic room I could only get the lift to the second floor and then had to negotiate a steep flight of stairs - fortunately I wasn't too "mellow"! The room was spacious, if a little sparsely-furnished, and spotlessly clean. However it was freezing cold. There was a perfectly good radiator but no-one had thought to turn it on in advance. So I switched it on and reckoned I might as well pop out again for a few more beers whilst it warmed the room - another perfectly valid excuse!!
Apart from the cold start and the fact that this was quite expensive for a fairly basic mid-market hotel (at over 80 euros) everything else about the place was fine. Staff were unanimously friendly and helpful, breakfast was well worth getting up for, the internet connection was spot-on and the workdesk ideal for catching up on a bit of VT stuff. The central location, about ten minutes walk from the railway station was perfect and the hotel's own stylish bar and restaurant, de Colonie, is a busy, buzzy, local favourite.

Lieu de Ruse: Bed and Breakfast
Bed and Breakfast Lieu de Ruse is located about 15 minutes walking from the center of Breda.
It is just outside the zone for payed parking, and parking in front of the door is free. Only on Saturdays from 07.00-19.00 when there's a market you cannot park in front of the door but have to park a bit further (for free).
The owners are a Belgium woman (Maria) and a Dutch man. We only met Maria, she was very friendly and helpful with suggestions about the sights in Breda. We were welcomed with a free drink.
There are many flyers and booklets with information about Breda available in the B&B, including walking and cycling routes, that you can take or borrow.
B&B Lieu de Ruse has a large garden, even with chickens! When the weather is good, you can have your breakfast outside, with a fresh egg! The breakfast was well organized, with little baked breads. It was not abundant, but just enough. There also is a fridge that you can use to store your own drinks, and that also functions as a minibar for e.g. beer and wine.
Our room (#1) was quite big, the toilet/shower was very small but certainly good enough to use. Room #1 is on the side of the street, and if you are a light sleeper, you should get the other room at the back of the house There' s a bar across the street that played very loud music until very late. Free earplugs are available though :-)
The rooms are on the second floor, and you have to climb two typically Dutch, very steep stairs.
Payment is upfront.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay here!
Free parking and yet close to the center

Hotel de Clock: Central location
Pretty comfortable and a good breakfast.
We had the room in the ``zolder`` which was great to see the whole square and the church.
(Ps.: dont worry, they have a lift)
By the way, payment is at the arrival (pretty weird but, no problem at last)

Fatamorgana is one of the attractions in the Efteling. Here is also a hotel where you can stay.
Good service, but rather expensive.

NJHC-hostel Het Putven: NJHC-hostel Het Putven
17 Euro's ech for twin room (bunks) and shared bathroom - inclusive of breakfast. Cheaper if you opt for small dorm. and 2.50 Eu discount for IYHA members.
Woodland environment with short trails and cycling routes. The hostel does not have a kitchen but you can purchase meals for a reasonable price. Unfortunately this hostel was not prepared to cater for vegetarians - but breakfast was suitable.
