Lovely hotel...

The room we had was new.It was very clean and spacious with very nice black and white contrast. The staffs were helpful and friendly. We didn't try their restaurant but it it was quite popular esp. in the evening. The hotel is far from the noise of the lively city but it's accesible to most of the main attractions of Amsterdam. So you really get a good night sleep;)

Guesthouse with the luxury of a 3* hotel

I only stayed here one night and I loved the place. This used to be a hospital, an old age home and since the '80 a guesthouse and now it is a fine 3* hotel in the middle of Amsterdam. Breakfast is included, juices, coffee, thea, cornflakes, bacon and eggs, croissants, honey, jam,..... a lot of choice. This is a hip place on a good location in Amsterdam, easy accecable with the tram.

For a standard room you pay 119 euro.

For fans of Design Hotels

This is among many so called design hotels that are springing up as competitions to the Hiltons and other chain hotels. You can find many at www.designhotels.com. This one is a little outside the city center in the home of a former orphanage. The church is now a nightclub that makes it convient for a late night of partying followed by a quick try up some stairs and down a hall to crash in your room. Then rooms were very basic though judge a vast improvement over the days when this was an orphanage. All the furniture was in the minimalist style favored by many design hotels. The room had a tv though it was small with few channels but then you are not coming to Amsterdam to watch TV. The only improvement was to create a lip around the shower as you had to be careful not to flood the decent size shower/bathroom combination. The breakfasts were basic but good with the same selection of breads, meats and fruit drinks. If you plan is spend your late nights at different hot spots be prepared to either walk or do a taxi as mass transit stops early in this city and other than the club at the hotel there is not much other nightlife.

Unique Quality: Church that was turned into a club and a beutiful courtyard where in nice weather would be perfect for eating breakfast at(we were there in April and it was still a bit chilly).

A Great Hostel

Nice clean rooms in this former Roman Catholic Orphanage.

It started out as a youth hostel in 1982 and then went a bit more upmarket as a hotel in the 1990's.

One thing I do remember is that when you had a shower and weren't very careful, the whole room was flooded. Hopefully they have improved the rooms since I last was there.

Decent breakfast though. It definitely had that student hostel vibe going on.

ToStay, ToDine, ToNight

Nice hotel with one of amsterdam's most trendy clubs and bars. Every weekend great music and nice people. Even if you dont stay at this hotel its worth a visit to go to ToNight on saturday night.

Unique Quality: The unique qualities are the adjacent club and bar !! great parties known all over Holland with the best national and international DJ's.

arena hotel

Unique Quality: The beautiful garden.the building in which Hotel Arena is accommodated, dates from 1890.Many of the rooms for 2, 3 or 4 persons have recently been renovated. You will find Hotel Arena on the edge of Amsterdam's historical centre. The peaceful Oosterpark is right next door. The hotel is easily reached, both by car and public transport. There is a parking area on the grounds.

Hotel Arena
This hotel is so nice !!!! Maybe in your guidebook they tells you it's a youth-hostel but it isn't anymore. They renovate the building and now they have 121 rooms with nice furniture...

More about Arena Hotel Amsterdam

easter in amsterdam(brilliant)

by TripAdvisor Member deeval

four of us stayed in the arena hotel in two separate rooms. it is located about a 10 minute tram ride from the city centre, but there plenty of trams. we were well prepare for the layout of the hotel and the web pics are very true. we are all 50's plus so we were a bit apprehensive about the trendy theme of the hotel. we need'nt have worried, the staff were very friendly and the rooms allthough basic are quite comfortable. this was our first visit to amsterdam and we very impressed with the city. the staff at the hotel were good at arranging visits and tours for us

i would recommend the arena for value for money hotel.
