nice but too far

Very chic but was too far from everything. 10 minute walk to tram, then 10-15 min ride. Suggest you buy the 24 or 48 hour tram pass, so you can get on and off at difference stops. One night went down to lobby around 11:45p.m no party here.

Unique Quality: Art work

More about Artemis Hotel Amsterdam

Love Artemis hotel

by TripAdvisor Member CARLAFM

Last February i went 4 days to Amsterdam and stayed at Artemis hotel... What a great experience. From airport we took the shuttle services that left me at the door of the hotel. At check in receptionist was a great lady and gave all of our instructions for the room and gave us advice about city and a map. Getting to the room was great, especially after a travel through Europe in little rooms and not so nice bathrooms. Very modern room, excellent beds, great bathroom and what to say about the buffet breakfast. Excellent!!!!!! Delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And don’t worry about distances. A little walk you get to the first tram station and from there to city centre. At night, again, get the tram and no more than a 3 minute walk back to the hotel. It good to get to know a little bit more. Really recommend it!!!!!!

Wish Travel Inns were like this in England

Having read the reviews on the Artemis Hotel we booked a short break to Amsterdam in March. The bus pick up and drop off was so simple from the airport. We arrived for 9.00am and were shown to our room without any hesitation whatsoever. Great to be able to drop the bags and get straight off into the city . Tram goes from around the corner which we found no bother at all.Not at all like a travel Inn We would be going every weekend if there was an Artemis Hotel built here.Great place to stay great staff and great value.Really recommend it

'Dutch design hotel' in a business park - Avoid at all costs

by TripAdvisor Member ozon

Artemis Amsterdam – 4 star hotel….let’s see:
1.Location: the hotel is part of the remote business park and is fairly close to the airport – in fact, one of the runaways is parallel to the hotel and you could see planes landing and taking off. If you are in one of the front rooms – there’s a fairly busy motorway just across and trains running rather often (see the photo) +MEXX & IBM buildings + construction site just in front of the hotel. It takes 10 min walk to get to the tram stop and 20 min by tram to get to the downtown. It was ok to walk in summer but those travelling in autumn or winter – beware – the prospect of walking for 10 min in wind and rain is painfully real. Taxi to downtown AMS is 25-30 euros one way. Overall: unless your flight is cancelled and you have a night to waste in Amsterdam area or unless you have a meeting at IBM or MEXX (not very likely) – do not stay at this hotel.

2.Service: no one meets you when you arrive to help with the luggage/meet and greet – surely – something rather normal for your usual 4 star hotel. Reception is always busy so you do have to queue for 10-15 min and it does not seem to bother the staff. On one occasion – one of them just walked away without saying a word leaving the whole queue – he never came back - at least not in the next 10-15 minutes we were waiting.

3.The hotel does not meet your requests (double/twin/smoking/non/smoking room) - they say it is only a request and therefore they do not have to meet it. We emailed couple of days prior to arrival asking for a double room: no acknowledgment. Instead, when we brought up the issue when checking in – they accused us of lying, confirmed that they do not meet requests and offered to pay the full rate to get an upgrade…the manager was not available on early Friday afternoon and the main receptionist – rather rude female named Melanie van Deudekom – suggested to call in next Tuesday – the first available day when the Manager was available. So whatever you tell them – there is one answer – ‘We don’t” – not even accompanied by ‘Sorry’.

4.The room – standard hotel room – nice touches but nothing extraordinary. It has air/con - rather noisy and not very effective. Due to a technical problem we were not able to use the telephones, wireless internet and pay-tv – of course, they were ‘trying to do their utmost to solve the problem’ but nothing was done in those five days we stayed there. To check your emails downstairs – you have to pay 5 Euros for half an hour and the moment you click the keyboard - someone from the reception is there to remind you that the service is not free (despite the fact that there was no wireless connection)

5.There is no hotel directory in the room – so no information whatsoever about services available (may be because there not that many services available in this business-park-located Dutch Design Hotel), restaurants opening hours, room service, internet, etc – NO DETAILS at all – you just have to guess or queue for 15 min downstairs.

6.Previous positive reviews. Surprisingly, there are not that many modern boutique hotels in Amsterdam so this one, ambitiously called ‘Design Dutch Hotel” comes up first when you do the search + it does sell cheap rooms attracting a 2-3 star hotel crowd – and not much is needed to keep some people happy – cheap room and a couple of pints. Also, placing some marginally ‘arty’ objects in the hotel reception hall and keeping the surfaces clean – does not make the hotel ‘boutique’ or ‘design’. “Complemented’ by rude staff and awful location – it makes this place to be avoided rather than enjoyed.

Avoid!

Very Poor

by TripAdvisor Member swannee15

This place does certainly not rate as a 4 Star hotel. Its location to Amsterdam is terrible (30 mins on bus or Tram to central Station).
We checked in at 1410 (1400 check-in allowed) and was told our room was not available. It was 2 hours later before we were able to get one allocated and then given the key cards to the wrong room. More messing about to get the receptionist to try and understand what the problem was. We were invited to have a cup of coffee during our wait and was then charged for it.
The rooms whilst clean and tidy and not particularly big and rather sparsely furnished (the "Modern" look).
Personnel items were taken from the bathroom. When we complained to management, they just shrugged it off.
Check out was just as bad, taking 45 mins before the computers finally ground out our bill.
Business people, whose company is paying the bill may enjoy this place. If you are paying out your own pocket, STAY CLEAR.

(I did put in a written complaint to the management, with all my relevant addresses, I never had a reply).

out of the way-prety hard to find

After short flight from Liverpool arrived at Schiphol at 9am. Caught bus no.164 from Schiphol Plaza outside airport, get off at Slottervart IBM and hotel is just across road; Hotel is on Business Park.
Checked in at 9.30 am with no problems getting our room. Rooms a bit dark be warned, don't touch the minibar as it cost us 13euros for four cans of pepsi! Take your own!
Quite a walk to Tram stop that takes you to city centre (Outside Hospital), but once you have the ng of the trams, its a fascinating experience- if alittle long at half an hour to centraal station :(
Rooms very clean, but staff have a bad habit of wandering in-and-out at strange times of day. Don't leave anything of any value inthe room, noticed someone had been in whilst away and moved certain items not relevant to cleaning.
Apart from that, breakfast buffet very nice- we found this Hotel to be on a par with the 'Travel Inns' of England.

Very Impressed, what value!

by TripAdvisor Member mejulio

I was very pleased and totally impressed with all aspects of this hotel. Squeeky clean, new and fantastic value for the money. Tram into the City was a piece of cake. If you don't need to stay in the City, I would highly recommend this gem. I made several international calls from the room. Upon checkout, I was expecting to shell big bucks out to settle the account. To my pleasant surprise, the cost came to just over 3 euros!

Great Bathroom!

Came back yesterday from a 4 day break in Amsterdam. The Artemis made our break very enjoyable. This hotel would be best described as 'No chintz', very sleek and modern, clean with friendly staff. A little far out from town for tourists (25mins to Central Station) but I found that getting the bus 145 from behind the hotel to Leidesplein then progressing into town via a tram, broke up the journey. The only complaint I have is upon our departure. We had an early flight, and checked out at 6.20am We tried to get some breakfast (which we had paid for) before our taxi arrived at 6.30am but were told that we couldn't as breakfast doesn't start till 6.30am. As it is a self service buffet we found this rather frustrating...so I helped myself anyway!

Desing hotel but very unconfortable beds!

by TripAdvisor Member toonespinosa

Hotel situated between Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam. To reach the cemtrum you should take Tram 2 from Station Aleta Jacobsson (it takes 10 minutes walking to reach this station) and to Dam Square is around 20 minutes.

Lobby. Very big with sofas to seat down.

Lifts. There are 3 big lifts enought to carry one big group in minutes.

Reception. They will request a deposit to allowed you to use de telephone, pay Tv & Minibar. Atention if you have a group of people there and you are guide because the amount of this deposit could reach 1.500 euros.

Rooms. Clean but some rooms of my group had some litle problems in bathrooms like wash-hand basin with broke cap. Or shower that shed out water. etc.

But the most important problems I found was the beds. In singles-rooms they have instead of a bed a Sofa-bed wich is impossible to sleep. The double rooms have a regular bed but the mattres is too thin and the sheets are short so in the morning you wake up with your bed complete chaos

Restaurant is good. Very good buffet for breakfast ans during the lunch and dinners the service was good and the food well presented and good taste.

Bar. If you order a wisky with seven up you will pay 12 € but you need at leats to drink 5 to feel a bit happy. It is maybe 1/2 centimeter of alcohol in your glass.

Beautiful Hotel in peacefull suroundings

by TripAdvisor Member VM1977

This hotel is EVERYTHING it advertises.

The people who book to stay here and neglect to look at the location first, are idiots.

The hotel is hard to find but we found it nice to explore the area.

The hotel is new and in a business district. It was quiet and on a main tram route. We managed to see all the sights and have a few late nights without the hotel location being an impediment.

We stayed here for 4 nights summer of 2005 at the same time the international fashion week was on. There were pretty people eating oysters on the deck of the beautiful restaurant. Very cool if that’s your thing.

I have no complaints at all with the hotel.

Staff were nice. Rooms were really big. Food was FAB. All was clean and new. All was as advertised. If i had to say anything is that the interior decoration is MUCH better than shown on the hotel pictures.
