Reasonably priced Amsterdam Hotel

This Hotel was located in a side street near Wetering Circuit.

My room was small, and located in the middle, so I didn't have a window, but I did have a large skylight, so I knew when it was night and day.
It had a double bed, desk, Bathroom, Toilet & Toiletries supplied. It was cleaned daily.
There was a Safe, but you had to hire it at 1.5euros a day.
Internet WAS NOT FREE also.

Breakfast was included in the price, a Buffet, not a lot of choice, but ample.

Security was good. You had a swipe card to get into your room and you also used this to get into the Hotel, I certainly felt very safe & secure here.

One big plus was it had a lift, I found when searching for a cheaper Hotel most didn't have, thankgoodness I didn't have to climb steep stairs every day.

The owners and Reception staff all were nice, friendly and helpful. You could buy the "Strippenkart" for the Tram from them, and the Tram stop was a very short walk away.

The Hotel was located near Heineken Brewery and Rijksmuseum, a very convenient location.

I enjoyed my stay here, and would stay here again.

Unique Quality: Liked the security and location.

Nice choice

The hotel Asterisk was a really nice choice to stay in Amsterdam. It is not in Centrum, but on a quiet street and in walk distance to all main attractions and about 40 minutes walk to Central Staion.
Single room with shower is not spacious but cosy and comfortable for one person. WiFi is in the room and free of charge.
All in all, description of facilities and breakfast, which is given on hotel’s site, is completely coincide with reality.
As a bonus of your stay it is possible to get the free Dutch clomps, a nice little thing :)

Clean & quiet hotel but a bit out of the way

I came to the Asterisk Hotel through a reservation made at the VVV in the Schiphol Airport. You never know what exactly you're going to get using the VVV but that's half the fun and it's never really a bad place. The price at the Asterisk Hotel wasn't bad but it was a bit of a walk most of the city action. The best plan if staying at this hotel is to rent a bike so you can quickly get to where you want.

Unique Quality: The room that I was in was a bit small (about average by European standards) and came with a sink and TV in the room. I had to use the common bathrooms found down the hall which wasn't too bad. You can pay a bit more for an in room WC. For the most part this hotel is simple, clean and quiet.

105NLG per night for a single room with private toilet. You share the shower. This price also includes breakfast. You can also get rooms with a shower as well. Doubles, triples and also quads.

Unique Quality: A very nice hotel with helpful and friendly staff. Special mention too Sabenya, sorry if that's not it quite the right spelling - as she was very friendly and helpful. Rooms have television, phone and safe. Are cleaned each day. Also helpful is that it has a lift. Also the cat is lovely :-)

Escape the tourist ghetto

We were given a small room with a double bed with its side to the wall - it was too small, we tried a room with two single beds instead and they were a lot better. The staff were easy to talk to and helpful. Even if you are a couple, book a twin room to avoid the cramped double. The view onto the street is superb and reflects traditional Amsterdam archetecture. The breakfast facilities are good and as the area is away from the touristy Dam Square, you can get food nearby at reasonale prices. Van Woustraat contains many cheap places to eat. There is a wonderful market nearby on Albert Cuypstraat.

Unique Quality: There is only one other hotel on the same street, the rest is residential. There are very few cars at night. Watch out for the stairs - they are the steepest we ever saw. There is a lift in one part of the hotel but not in the other.

! Hotel

This is a nice, inexpensive hotel on the outskirts of town. The staff was very nice and the rooms were pretty clean.
Amsterdam is a little bigger than I originally assumed, and this hotel is a fair walking distance from the downtown area near the central train station. However, it is very close the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum.
If you can figure out the tram, it should be easy and fast to get around from here.

Close to everything, yet a nice quiet location

Another hotel on Den Texstraat, just across from the Kap. Reasonably priced and clean accomodations.
I stayed in a basic single (with shared shower/toilet) across the street from the main hotel. It looked to be recently renovated.
Although small (something you'll get used to if staying at budget hotels in Europe), it had all that I needed: bed, closet, phone, cable TV, chair and small writing surface, and a sink.

Unique Quality: Den Texstraat is a great location in Amsterdam. Not because it's in the center of all the action, but because it's close enough for you to be in the center of all the action very quickly - yet you can still get a nice quiet nights sleep.
It's within a block of several tram lines and easy walking distance to the Leidseplein and Museumplein.

I meant that hotel. I also read some good review on channel.nl, but webmaster also added there that some may fake.
So I hope that someone has first hand experience.
