CONCERT INN: Small and Well Priced
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The Concert Inn (part of the AMS chain of Amsterdam hotels) is a small and simple place in a wonderful location. It's a two minute walk to the Concert Hall and about 5 to the Museumplein. The 16 tram was at our door and it's only a 30 minute drive from Schipol. The rooms were clean and the staff professional and helpful. The reception desk was next door at their sister hotel .. Ramada Museum Hotel.

Flying Pig Hostel Palace: the Flying Pig
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The hostel itself was pretty good- the room and bathroom were clean, the service was mediocre. I had issues with recovering some items left in a different room my first night there. I understand they can throw stuff out,-that's their prerogative, but they seemed pretty disinterested in helping out.

I met some really very friendly people here....what is it about friendly Australians? :)
Flying Pig serves a light breakfast, plus they have a bar (although I'm not a very good drinker).
There's a cigarette machine, which I wrestled with for a while until it finally beat me.

Hotel Wiechmann: For Musicians only ?
  • Tip Rating:
  • Hotel Wiechmann became famous by Ted Dale Boddy. As an US soldier he met Niccy in Amsterdam in 1953 and they fell in love. Niccy was the daughter of the hotel's owners and Ted and she married and took over the hotel. The manager of the Flying Burrito Brothers picked the hotel from a catalogue and the Dire Straits, Eagles and Sex Pistols followed. Niccy started a booking office and at the hotel some small concerts were held. Ted died at december 18, 2003. His son is running the business since 2001.

Options outside Amsterdam are less expensive and - most of the time they offer much more comfort / value for the price you pay. With the excellent public transport from and to Amsterdam, one often only needs half an hour to end up in the centre anyway. For example: try the countryside North of Amsterdam, if you like natural (Dutch) scenery this is the place to be (Purmerend, Zaandam, but also Volendam). Outside these towns and in the “polders” are also farm stays possible often in combination with Bed & Breakfast in a Dutch family (by the way, don't expect that they live in a windmill and wear wooden shoes - hahaha).

Never stayed here, but walked along it many times with even noticing this old landmark.
It's a small hotel with 16 double rooms and 4 single rooms.

If you want to know more contact VT-member geoffboxer; it's one of his favorite hotels.

Great lacation, bar downstairs. Restaurant Oud Holland nearby. At the heart of Amsterdam.

This small-looking hotel is tucked away in a street that boasts the houses of different nations built for the late 19thC Universal Exhibition, so they are pleasingly different. The hotel itself is small and quiet - the street is away from traffic and passing crowds, though very handy for the Rijksmuseum! Clean and comfortable - what more could one want?

    Euphemia Hotel: Euphemia Hotel, Amsterdam
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • small rooms and you could hear some noise at the weekend, but that didn't bother us really. We got a room with its own bathroom which was probably used to be a wardrobe but then alot of places in amsterdam a kinda small so you get what you pay for.

Lots of steep stairs like most places in Amsterdam which certainly keep you fit, breakfast was 7EUR which I think was a bit pricey for some bread and cheese, we just went to the bakery around the corner instead.

You have to pay 5% extra if you pay with a card which we would've liked to know before we went as one of the plus sides to the hotel was it was cheap, and adding that charge made it about the same price as it would have been to go somewhere maybe a bit better. Still, it had a good location and it met all the needs we had for our trip :)

Good location, easily accessible from Central station and good base for sightseeing. The hotel is meant to be a former monastery, but doesn't maintain that character really. It is really cheap though, and is great if you are just after a room :) prices from approx £18 pppn - £40 depending on room and season.

I booked the hotel through Hostelworld.com

The Avenue Hotel ROCKS! A few friends went to Canabus Cup last year and got this cute little hotel at a great rate. It was just behind the pallace in Damn Square. Had this cool bar next to it. If your not picky, this is a fab place. However, it's a busy area, so it's for those who are going to party!

    Rooms
The rooms are also small and are decorated in either pink or apple green in modern style. They are not furnished with especially expensive materials, but they are comfortable. The bathrooms are small, simple and up-to-date and all are in good condition.
    Restaurant
There is no restaurant apart from the breakfast room and this can be found on the ground floor.
    Exterior
The exterior of this building is very traditional as it consists of typical Dutch townhouses which are all so familiar in Amsterdam city centre.
    Lobby
The lobby is large with limited seating and there is also a small bar adjacent. It is all new and was recently refurbished in 2001.
    General
This popular hotel is a good three star property which offers a reasonable level of comfort in a prime location. It was refurbished in 2001.jg/03/2003

(Looks like the hotel is a Ramada owned Hotel now...)

This hotel was about a 10-minute tram ride from Damn Square. However, this trip was my 4th trip so I was ready to branch out and see how the locals lived and played. Best decision I ever made I’ll tell you. The hotel was darling, and the location was supposed to be in the ritzy part of town. Right next-door was a bakery, next to that, a drugs store, next to that a grocery store. Perfect!

The front desk gal was a kick in the pants! One day I asked her: “How’s it going?” to that she replied: “The bad are always doing good.” Ha!

    My room had 24hr porn.

I called this trip, “The Vacation of 9 baths.” The tub was about 6 feet long, 2 feet deep and had hot water all the time. Every day I would smoke a joint and take a loooong bath.

Remember to buy your tram tickets at the grocery store. (SEE TRANSPORTATION)

    Rooms
The comfortable bedrooms are mostly of medium size and stylishly decorated in neutral, contrasting colours with tasteful modern furniture. The bathrooms reflect equally the modern standard of the bedrooms.
    Restaurant
Located on the ground floor, the restaurant serves breakfast only. There is also a coffee shop serving coffee and light snacks only.
    Exterior
This building is part of a block dating back to the 1930's.
    Lobby
The lobby is modern and small and has terracotta style floor tiles and a reception desk giving it a very attractive mediterranean feel.
    General
This hotel is well located close to the heart of Amsterdam and is a good hotel for individual travellers and small groups. jg/102001
