Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
On a quiet residential street, the Hotel KAP is clean, the service accomodating, and the rooms are quite sufficient. A typical breakfast is served daily in the breakfast room, which is open to a back courtyard, very nice for a morning coffee. I had a small single room, which included a sink and shower in the room, with the toilet shared with one other room directly outside my door. Long, straight up Dutch steps, so be ready for the climb as there is no lift! 24-hour access provided, with a manager on duty at the front desk.
Very quiet on the inside, facing the backside courtyards of the street. Balcony window opened enough for a look out. I paid 57 euros a night, which included all taxes and breakfast daily. | | | | Marriott Amsterdam: nice location
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
The hotel was a pleasant place to stay in Amsterdam. The lobby was smallish for such a big hotel but our room was a surprise. While not as big as American standard-issue rooms, they are quite big for European standards, tastefully decorated and furnished with everything you'd expect from a 5-star hotel. The staff were friendly and the hotel even has a laundry room for guests where they can wash/dry their clothes. The location is unbeatable. Just across the street you'll find Leidseplein which are lined with numerous shops, restaurants, cafes, pubs/bars, and also Lido Cabaret and Holland Casino. Beyond Leidseplein you'll find the shopping street of Kalverstraat leading all the way up to Damrak. Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum is also a stone's throw from the hotel. There's also a boarding point for Amsterdam's Canal tours right in front of the hotel and a nice park to take a stroll in. All in all, this hotel was a pleasant base for our adventure in Amsterdam and I would not hesitate to stay in this hotel again.
Nice location near shopping, food, entertainment, museum and canal tour. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$180 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Stadhouderskade 19-21, Amsterdam, 1054 ES |

Very popular, inexpensive and co-ed, located in the heart of the city. The atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming and friendly. The main floor is a lounge, with pillows and cushions and blankets spread all over the floor. You can catch some zzzz's, socialize, read, or just somke a nice 'doobie'... It's great fun! | | | | Radisson Sas Hotel Amsterdam: Swanky Dam Square Hotel
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
The Raddisson: very swanky, however, not a TRUE Amsterdam experience. It was a huge hotel, in a great location. My room had a window that faced someones office window. Had to shut the blinds the whole week. HOWEVER, great mini bar... lots of drinking was done in my room, and not over priced. I was traveling alone at the time. It's location rocks. Right accross the cobble stone street is a deli and two "brown cafes".
The unique selling point of this deluxe hotel is the varied styles of bedrooms ranging from Scandinavian to Maritime to old Dutch. The hotel features Royal Club rooms which are business rooms only. The rooms are all in very good condition, as are the accompanying marble bathrooms. Restaurant The public areas include a brasserie which serves traditional Dutch specialities as well as deli-style sandwiches. There is also an excellent a la carte restaurant. Exterior The building has a modern exterior whereas the interior hosts a variety of styles, ranging from the 18th century to the style of the Far East. Lobby The lobby is fairly spacious with an atrium linking the roof of the modern building with the bar which used to be an 18th century vicarage. The lobby is beautifully decorated with candelabras, dark wood and leather furniture. General This is a lovely, centrally located hotel suitable for both groups and individuals. Please note that because of the narrow canal streets, it is necessary for the coach to drop guests off around the corner from the hotel. 12/02jg Bedrooms Total Number of Rooms: 243 - Single rooms - Double rooms - Twin rooms - Triple rooms - Non-smoking rooms Room Facilities Air conditioning Television Satellite television In-house movie Radio Direct dial phone Mini bar Hairdryer Trouser press Automatic wake-up call Voltage 220v Hotel Facilities Medium sized lobby Earliest check-in at 15:00 4 lifts Porterage 24 hour Rooms service 24 hour 6 floors Car parking Solarium Gymnasium Sauna Shop Car rental facilities Baby sitting Laundry facilities Disabled facilities Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$120-180 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: RUSLAND 17Directions: This hotel is located in the heart of the old city, close to the museums, theatres and main shopping area. I know, I know… I said I was violently opposed to no-budget travel BUT this place holds a special place in my heart. And if you have to hostel in Amsterdam this is the only place to do it. One one side you have the needle exchange program, and on the other side you have a whore house. Not bad for Christians. If your looking to get some space from your travel partner/boyfriend, then this is the place to go. It's smack dab in the red light district. And you can sing for your supper. Oh, and one night, some chick FELL off the top bunk! I bet she still slurrrrrs her words!
The Shelter City has a total of 168 comfortable beds in dorm-style dorms. There are separate dormitories for men and women, each of them divided into sections containing four to eight beds. Open: every morning from 7.30 am until curfew. Curfew (closing time): 1.00 am Friday and Saturday nights; midnight on the other nights Age limits: 16-35 Check out this hostel site: http://www.qixo.com/cruises/index.html Leave a Comment |

Some Hotels have different rules for smoking marijuana in the room, it's best to just ask beforehand. Suprisingly enough some hotels do not allow smoking herb in the room and will have signs displayed indicating so. However I have heard many people do it anyway, and just open the window to air it out a bit, without any problems. I guess that is up to you whether you want to risk it or just make sure to find a hotel where you can be comfortable and not have to even worry about it! Leave a Comment Theme: Hotel |

 | | | | Marriott Amsterdam: Not All Bad, but Not Great
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
While the Marriott was a reasonably good deal on two weeks notice during the height of tourist season in July (149 euros per night, AAA rate, though they didn't ask for proof when I checked in), I must add that the hotel could use some serious housekeeping attention. Two main issues: 1) The bathroom smelled like wet towels left for three days on the bottom of a hamper. Ugh. Would have asked to change rooms, but I had already unpacked and just didn't want to waste any of the very few hours I would be in town. 2) The sliding glass doors and small balcony with a nice view would have been lovely, but the glass doors were filthy! Otherwise, it’s a nice hotel, with large rooms and a comfy bed, and well located. It's just across the street and canal from Leidseplein, one of the major squares in Amsterdam full of cafés, shops, street performers and late night life, and only half a kilometer from the Museumplein where you’ll find the Van Gogh, Stedelijk and Rijksmuseums. Concierge, desk and all other service people were friendly and helpful. The décor, including the bathroom, is closer to 3 star than 4. Wireless broadband costs 19 euros per day – ouch! Their buffet breakfast is overpriced at 24 euros. On the other hand, they have a free coffee station in the lobby (one of those wonderful machines that grinds the beans fresh for each cup). There's a hot water pot and instant coffee or tea in your room. Since I don’t eat a big breakfast, I simply took two cups of free coffee from the lobby, and ordered the 6 euro basket of breakfast rolls from room service. It was more than enough for one person.
