This was an absolutely great place to stay. With only 50 rooms, this is truly an intimate cozy place to stay. The service was wonderful and we were constantly asked if everything was okay. The location was great. A two minute walk to the centre of town. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone except those with small children.

The hotel is right on the Herengracht canal. They have a room off the lobby which is called the Living. There are comfy chairs and sofas, lots of reading material and a fireplace that is on constantly. There is also a great bar area with cold drinks, coffee, tea and even wine and champagne and assorted alcohol, which is all complimentary. It was so nice to come in after a mornings shopping to sit down and have coffee and pastry without paying. There are also two computors, which are available without cost to check e-mail etc.

  • The Banks Mansion is well situated on the Herengracht-the first inner canal in Amsterdam. It is an old merchants house that has been converted into a lovely Art Deco style hotel.
It is well situated near to Rembrandt plein, one the main squares of Amsterdam as well as Kalverstraat which is one of the main shopping streets in that city. You are also only a ten minute walk to Leidseplein where there are loads of restaurants and bars. What more could you want??
Also for us gay folk The Banks is only around the corner from Regulierswardstraat which has a lot of great gay bars such as Soho and Exit!

The Banks sells itself as a Home from home. Once you have paid for your room all drinks and food supplied by the hotel are included by the hotel. Yes that is right-everything!!
They have a lovely breakfast room on the lower floor which has both hot and cold buffet items as well as juices and hot drinks. We used to eat well in the morning and apart from a snack, this would be enough until dinner later that night. This is a big saving in itself.
In the lobby there are two internet access points which are always on and always free for guests. Also there is a self service bar wheer you can help yourself to coffee and tea as well as beer, brandy, whiskey, baileys and so on. There are snacks put out during the day such as biscuits in the morning and dips in the evening. All these things are free.
What is great about this is that you can meet your friends before going out and have a couple of drinks together for Free.
Also there are drinks available when you come home later.
My friends room had a bath while I had a shower but my shower was more like a steam room as it had a steam facility complete with eucalptus oil in the steamer.
There was also a cd player- you had to go to reception to choose the cds- and a flat screen tv with channels in many languages. You could also order adult movies if that was your thing.
The staff were all very helpful without exception. I would have to heartily recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of treating themselves when in Amsterdam.

  • The hotel is perfectly located for navigating Amsterdam. Its location on the Herengracht was lovely. It's a charming area...with the Rembrantplein only a few minutes away which meant there were restaurants galore to choose from.

Room size was rather good for a European hotel. I've often had much smaller rooms...not that I care all that much. Hotel was clean and the staff friendly. And...it had a PC in the lobby with free Internet access!!!
