  • Can't get much closer to Centraal

    by

Barangay is a B&B approximately 3 blocks west of the Centraal and easily walkable, even with your rolling luggage. On eastern border of the Jordaan, so lots to see and walk through. Wimmo and Godwin have themed rooms, independent entrances, comfortable digs. We had the South Tropical Room, in the basement, with leopard print duvet on a cast iron four poster bed, a large tub, a small fridge, Philippino decorations, and a steep stair down to the room.

We were there at the height of flower time, early April 2007, and Amsterdam was downright summery, with temperatures in the 80's,

Unique Quality: Wimmo greeted us, sat us down for a drink, and gave us excellent mapping and advice on where and what to see. Wimmo works for a canal cruise line, so was able to get us tickets at a discount. Told us what to see, what to avoid, walking hazards (Watch out for the bicycles!) and recommendations for us first timers. The evening cruise by the company he works for (Blue Boat Line) was a real treat, with a knowledgable guide (Lisa) who was not only a fount of knowledge and funny, but also gracious in dealings with obnoxious drunken and drinking tourists.

BTW, if Wimmo recommends Seasons Restaurant in the Prinzenstraat, by all means go! Fantastic food, great atmosphere, and a pleasant ramble from the location.

I'd stay there again in a flash. We had to check out early on a Monday morning, about 8 AM, and got to meet Godwin, just barely awake. They were still in the process of renovating their own digs, so we never took advantage of the breakfast.

Directions: Eastern border of the Jordaan, close to interesting shops, restaurants, "coffee" shops, and a stone's throw from the central point for all public transportation. Very walkable at all hours.

Bed and Breakfast at it's Best!!

    by

This bed and breakfast was great. It was 110 euro for two people (one double bed) with a private bathroom. The room had a small fridge and sliding door to a patio.

Unique Quality: The guys who run this Bed and Breakfast are amazing! When we arrived they gave us a map with all the local sites, and went over the "must-see" places with us! Every day breakfast was brought to our room and was great. If you are really looking for a place with a homey feel to it, check it out!

Directions: About a 10 min walk from Central Station, nice quiet area

Picking accommodation via the web is a bit risky, but I made a great choice with the Barangay. They really are walking distance from the station. Run by Wimmo and Godwin I can understand why people keep going back to them. Wimmo is a mine of interesting and useful information on where to go and what to see. Our rooms were very clean, comfortable and warm, my husband and I are from South Africa and feel the cold. Breakfasts were very well presented and with extras, each morning, an egg dish which we had not expected. The fruit was fresh and the yoghurt wonderful.

We arrived early, before our rooms were ready, but Wimmo waited in for us and stored our luggage. When we left, 3 days later, we had the same problem, only getting a train in the late evening, but again no problems, our luggage was happily stored for us, so we could spend an uncluttered day sightseeing.

This was our first visit to Amsterdam and 3 days was too short. If we ever get the chance to return, I know where we will be staying.

Lovely rooms and lovely food!

Barangay - Always again

We stayed at the Barangay for three nights and it was great.
There are two incredible and really nice hosts who make you feel welcome and comfortable.
The rooms and the bathrooms are very, very clean, convenient and really decorated with love.
You have the possibility to make yourself coffee or tea at the room and there is a refrigerator too.
The breakfest is great...you get al lot of delicious food for a good value.

All in all I have to say, that there was NOTHING negative and that I can recommend the Barangay to everyone who wants to travel to Amsterdam!

I was with my girlfriend Jasmin 3 days in Amsterdam and it was great luck, that we found Barangay. The two great people Willow and Godwin have very nice rooms...excellent ideas with the tropical room and they are both so friendly....we felt a bit like home....
This nice place is just two or three minutes from the central station and three minutes from the centre away...it couldn`t be better. I hope I will come back soon!

Heavenly Hospitality

B&B Barangay- Amsterdam- Wimmo & Godwin were excellent host at their Bed & Breakfast in Amsterdam. We arrived and was greeted with a smile and a glass of wine! Wimmo & Godwin made us feel quite welcome. The rooms were nice and clean and they delivered on every promise and some. The B&B is centrally located to the train station and tourists shopping as well as restaurants. Wimmon & Godwin were detailed on historical sites and advised us on safety tips, and all of the do's and don'ts. They even assisted us with hotel accomodations for our continued trip to Paris, France.

When we make our return visit to Europe, Amsterdam is automatically on my list because it is such a great place and very liberal. We know where we will be staying yes...The Barangay!

Thanks Wimmo & Godwin for such warm hospitality:)

You'll love your stay at Barangay

I have recently returned from a short stay at Barangay. I have stayed there
several times before, in fact I would not stay anywhere else when visiting Amsterdam. The bed and breakfast accomodation is situated in an 18th Century building in Droogbak, a quiet street, only a short walk from Central Station. As it is so near to Central station it is also handy for all public transport - buses, trams, metro etc.
You are within easy walking distance of all of Amsterdam's many attractions - canals, bars, coffee houses, cinemas, museums etc. The famous Anne Frank's House is only 5 minutes walk away, as is the infamous red light district. Amsterdam itself is, of course, a lovely, lively city and is inviting at any time of year.
All rooms at Barangay have tv, refridgerator, coffee or tea making facilities and private bathroom, and are spotlessly clean. Breakfast is served in your room and makes a good start to the day. You will certainly not need anything else to eat until much later in the day. Your hosts, Wimmo and Godwin, are two very friendly guys who will do all they can to make your stay an enjoyable one. They will advise you on where to go, what to see etc. in fact nothing seems to be too much trouble for them.
So, if you are visiting Amsterdam for the first time, or even planning a return trip, then do give Barangay a try. You will not be disappointed, and you will certainly want to return.
Absolutely first class.
