We were there at the height of flower time, early April 2007, and Amsterdam was downright summery, with temperatures in the 80's,
Wimmo greeted us, sat us down for a drink, and gave us excellent mapping and advice on where and what to see. Wimmo works for a canal cruise line, so was able to get us tickets at a discount. Told us what to see, what to avoid, walking hazards (Watch out for the bicycles!) and recommendations for us first timers. The evening cruise by the company he works for (Blue Boat Line) was a real treat, with a knowledgable guide (Lisa) who was not only a fount of knowledge and funny, but also gracious in dealings with obnoxious drunken and drinking tourists.
BTW, if Wimmo recommends Seasons Restaurant in the Prinzenstraat, by all means go! Fantastic food, great atmosphere, and a pleasant ramble from the location.
I'd stay there again in a flash. We had to check out early on a Monday morning, about 8 AM, and got to meet Godwin, just barely awake. They were still in the process of renovating their own digs, so we never took advantage of the breakfast.
