Amsterdam Apartment for four single people

by darthminogue

Hi, I am wondering if anyone knows of a good website to book an apartment in Amsterdam in September. I've seen a few sites but I'd like one that shows different apartments, the amount of beds (four single people - can share beds but want to know in advance if we have to!), the cost and also reviews from previous customers. The ones I've looked at look good, but don't have the reviews and I don't want us to spend €800 or whatever on a dodgy place.

Cheers

I found a marvelous and affordable mini flat. The person that rented it also has other flats and he can be trusted.

The owner, Paul, is a nice person, no problems, very considerate and kind. He provides complete privacy but with availability at all times if you need him.

He has a number of flats available.

I have had success with VRBO.com---a nice flat on a canal for less than $100 a nite! Lots of good photos and selections.....
Also for a really cool vacation, check out houseboatrentals.nl for apartments and houseboats for rent.....

Travel Tips for Amsterdam

Entertainment in Amsterdam

by WZand

If you're visiting Amsterdam for a couple of days and want to do something original take a look at the House of Bols! House of Bols is best described as a "Cocktail and Jenever experience". Bols is the most respected jenever producer in the Netherlands, dating back to 1575. At the House of Bols you'll first get introduced to its history, then there will be a smell and taste session that challenges your senses, afterward there's a flaring (bartender tricks with bottles) session where you'll get the opportunity to tape yourself and get the recording sent to you. To top it off the experience ends with a cocktail of your choice prepared for you by a professional bartender. Enjoy! For more info and directions you can check out the website. Price is a little under 12 euro I recall. My favorite ting about Amsterdam is just floating on the canals when the sun shining.

Huge balloons

by martin_nl

The other day I walked from my work to the train station and noticed these beautiful big balloons on the Beursplein, next to the Bijenkorf. The balloons were here because of the Holland Festival, which is held every year in June. The festival has a wide variety of the stage arts with one characteristic in common: great artistic quality and an international dimension.

Dam Square, but I'm no expert, it's just the nearest place on the map to where I actually live, 10 miles north of The Haig (Den Haag). The day I visited it during Koninginindag. the place is wild.
But for a REAL TREAT, check out Leiden on October 3 (any year) and the 2-3 days leading up to it.

Cycling in city traffic

by Nemorino

Although the cycling infrastructure is better in Amsterdam than in most cities, if you cycle there you will be involved in city traffic.

If you are not used to this you might prefer to take a bike tour where you will be looked after, rather than cycling on your own.

For an experienced cyclist, however, Amsterdam is an exhilarating place, despite the traffic. There are so many other people on bikes that you aren't just part of an embattled minority, and even the automobiles don't seem to stink as much because the exhaust fumes are dispersed by fresh salty breezes from the nearby sea.

Amsterdam Tip

by Cramer_3

While there in October, we managed to stumble upon this carnival in the Dam Square. The ferris wheel was HUGE. Because the apex of the wheel was twice as high as the 4-6 story buildings that are in the area, it gave us a great view of the city, especially at night. Plus, who doesn't like a carnival?
