Cheap electronics whith small defects

by spykid

Hy all !
I am looking for cheap electronics in Amsterdam or Rotterdam, Utrecht with small defects ( scrath or something minor ), rejected by factory. Doesn't matter the town or country ( near by holland ) cause i have plenty of time.
Thanks.

There is a pawn shop at the Nieuwe Binnenweg - Rotterdam. That one has a lot of music equipment and gear.

For the rest you can find stuff at street markets and second hand shops in the cities you mentioned, but with no guarantee at all.

Maybe the "Zwarte Markt" at Beverwijk is what you are looking for; see http://www.debazaar.nl/index.html. Also here: no guarantees and bring your common street (market) sense.

The terminology that you should look out for is:
- dump artikelen
- kneusjes (slightly scratched)
- B-keus (2nd choice)
- showmodel (models that have been on show in the shop)

It may be easier for us to help you if you give us an idea what kind of electronics you are looking for.
Video/Audio? Computer? Car? What?

Home appliances as in washing and drying machines, dishwashers, fridges, ovens and such? These come under the collective name of 'witgoed'/
Or are you looking for smaller home appliances?

Juice makers, stand mixers, espresso machines, food processors, cooktops & microwave ovens .

Not an easy one. You rarely see those smaller appliances offered for less because of minor defects. I think that stuff usually goes back to the manufacturer or wholesaler. Possibly this has to do with guarantees and such which can't be given in the case of (even the slightest) damage. Safety reasons, tralala. This country is a consumer market and manufacturers are very careful.

Sometimes there may be one section in a shop with a mish mash of stuff slightly damaged. Best to visit regular electronic shops and ask for their showmodels and slightly damaged items.
Shops such as:
-Expert
-BCC
-Mediamarket
-Correct (in Rotterdam)
-Dixons
-Etc. (other VT-ers help me out here :-)

Larger appliances, yes. 'Witte deukjes' (large appliances with a scratch) at:

Just walk around in the center, there is a very special, undiscribable atmosphere, you have to feel it:-)Keep your camera standby, you'll find many things you'll want to photograph. Take a tour with one of the many boats that are cruesing the channels, don't miss the Flower Market (see photo) Because the streets are narrow in the center, most streets are hard or not to reach by car, therefore most people get around by bike. I've never seen that many bikes in one place in my entire life; I still don't understand, how people find their bikes back between thousand others...

An art lover's paradise

by acemj

Amsterdam is chock-full of great artwork and no other single museum is more impressive than the Rijksmuseum. If you're interested in the Dutch masters, this is the place to go. However, there are also more obscure museums to explore like the Sex Museum, the Hash Museum and many more.

Check this site out for more info on some of the more art-oriented museums.

Bridges

by micas_pt

Bridges that cross Amsterdam's channels are a wonderful spot for sightseeing: the channel, the tree lined streets, the daily life of locals, the typical houses along the water, the bicycles, ... They also provide beautiful scenic background for photos or a useful place to shoot your camera. Bridges and channels were my greatest expectations regarding Amsterdam and i must say they didn't let me down.

Rembrandtsplein

by Mariajoy

This little 'green' square was, up until the 1870's, Amsterdam's butter market. It is surrounded by cafes, bars and restaurants all catering to the tourist with outdoor music and souvenir shops in abundance. With all the sleazy grubby little streets leading off it, it is not my favourite part of the city at all. I wonder what Rembrandt, would make of all this. Not Rembrandtsplein.
