I had stayed at this floating "hotel" some years ago on a prior visit. It's then location was simply brillant since it was just near to the Centraal Station. I assumed it was still in the same spot and found out the hard way it had moved over 4 years ago! A hour of frutiless searching eventually led me to the back of the train station- still, no Botel. I then learned it had moved across the waters to Amsterdam North. This was awful news since I also was told that the ferry closed down at 1 am and I had just arrived at 10 pm. I perservered and for the better. After checking in I was given a very comprehensive schedule of TWO ferries that serve this property. After 1 am you take the shorter 10 minute ferry to a different stop where the Botel has a shuttle van that runs overnite until the ferry re-opens. The place has a no fills, tired quality but it is very clean and offers really good value. I was in #340. You are basically in a second class cruise cabin. They have a really good safe but you must leave a deposit when they give you your own lock. There is a little lounge and bar near the Breakfast Room so you can meet your fellow shipmates (January 2012).
Unique Quality: There is a generous, complimentary breakfast buffet (with an excellent view of the harbor) as well as comp wireless (I had booked this for $100 for the night via Easyjet). There is a novelty to having a floating hotel but, remember, you can really feel the tides shifting ever so often so NOT recommended for any one who suffers from any kind of motion sickness. The Reception staff is very perfunctory so do your own research for things to do, etc.. An interesting restaurant (IJ-kantine)with floor to ceiling windows nearby that I didn't visit but looked very nice.
