by mafootje
This building is the Amsterdam Music theatre called the Stopera. It has opened on September 23, 1986. It's the home of the dutch opera and national ballet.
But there are also guest performers from all over the world.

There is so much to do in...
by GerryM
There is so much to do in Amsterdam it is difficult to pick on any one thing. For those of you have already been here you will know that it pretty much offers something to everyone. If you have not yet been here and are planning to come, please feel free to get in touch. I have already helped a great many travellers with local information and enjoy being a tourguide to my recently adopted city. Helping others find what they are interested in, often helps me to find out new and interesting things. Again there are so many. I love to wander through the canal area of the city and absorb the architecture and romanticism of it all. I am also blessed to live in this area, so I get a lot of opportunity. If you haven't tried Queen's Day (the Queen's official birthday), that can be great fun. It is a National holiday, and in Amsterdam all the trams normally running through the city, do not, as there are so many people, it would be impossible. You do need to like crowds, as the whole city is one big crowd on that day. It probably helps to know someone who can guide you around, otherwise manoevering your way through some of the crowds can be a bit tedious. Everyone ends up completely 'out of their heads' on some enhancer, mostly alcohol, but there are other unusually legal substances available here.
There are a great many good restaurants, most of which are not in parts of town where most tourists tend to look. Let me know if I can advise you.
The Cannabis Shops of Amsterdam

Amsterdam is such a free city, one of the most liberated country in the world I think.....
I am not encouraging you of buying what they offer there but just encourage you NOT to miss this, HAVE A LOOK! You can find this shops only in Amsterdam. The junkies around the city, those homeless and just hanging around to find something to live in this kind of City, also those alchoholic people around, sometimes frightening.
Good thing is Amsterdam is just a nice place for nightlife...good cafes and restaurant are just around.

Health care
Effective July 1, 2004 the following health care rules apply to the EU and EEA countries. With an international health insurance pass, visitors to Holland are entitled to health care should this be needed during their stay in our country. The care provided, however, is related to the length of stay in Holland. The concept ‘should this be needed’ is, of course, quite vague. It means that all services covered by medical insurance will be reimbursed.
Treatment for which someone expressly travels to Holland is excepted. An E112 (Treatment Abroad Scheme) form is required for such treatment.
Like cheese?
by acemj
There are some amazing cheese shops around town. Just take a stroll and you're bound to run across some excellent examples. This one is just off Dam Square on Damstraat. As you can imagine, the place has a stong odor, but once you get past that, it's awesome. Every time I walked by, they were doing a swift business, so eventually I had to stop by and check it out for myself.
