Go ahead and stay here if you want your stuff stolen and rats in your room. After insisting that they come in to clean my room, and i said no but was on my way out so didn't argue too much and finally said fine. Only to come back to a stolen Ipod that was left inside my bag. The next day when I confronted the manager, she vehemently denied it and said things like "Why would he steal your Ipod, he has one already" or "He's worked here for 10 yrs and no one has ever complained" Right! Well scripted. needless to say i couldn't do anything about it because I was trying to catch a train to Berlin.

Also, something ate its way into my bag and got a little treat, lets just say there was at least one happy rat tripping its balls off in the streets.

Scrambled eggs and toast is all there is for breakfast. You might have to share your bed with some furry frends.

Unique Quality: Handy if you wan't to nip out and ogle the prostitutes.

Directions: just outside the red light district.

    Amsterdam's budget double bedroom

    by

Instantly welcomed by the friendly staff who were more than happy to tell you where all the hotspots were in Amsterdam.

The room was wee but it was clean and cosy and that is all we needed for our stay.

There was a constant flow of hot water and central heating. Breakfast was included in the fixed price but we never got up in time to sample it.

I would recommend this hotel if you are not fussy about what it looks like and that you do not mind climbing the 3 very narrow staircase to get up to the top of the hotel rooms.

Only thing I would advise is to wear ear plugs if the room next door come in later in the night as the walls are quite thin.

Unique Quality: Great location, great staff, good facilities... what more could you ask for!

Directions: 5 min walk from central station

Stadsdoelen is in the heart of the old city (RLD).
Vondelpark 2km Southwards at the Vondelpark (a real park and VT-location!) and close to the big museums.

Don't forget The Flying Pig, it's a very popular hostal too. See them all at dila's Amsterdam page (http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/2a405/71211/3/)

StayOkay hostels are very popular. You better book way in advance.

I stayed at "Hans Brinker Budget Hotel" last February.
It is very nice. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere very informal.

There is no curfew. Linen, towel and breakfast are included. It was the first hostel where I've been where the shower towel was included... Each person has a locker (with key!) in the room (the locker is also included in the price).

Although their publicity (which is very funny indeed):

"Now! A door in every room!"
"Now! More rooms without a window!"

The dorms are clean and comfortable.
Before leaving make sure your room is not a mess. I saw some British tourists (they were not teens) who were not allowed to check out until their room was ok. They don't want people to clean the rooms; they just don't like to see a mess when people check out.

The area is nice and there are cheap restaurants in the streets nearby.

Cheers.

Hello,

I'm Dennis from Amsterdam. StayOkay near the Vondelpark is nice. The Vondelpark itself is very nice in the summer and you are nead the Leidsche Plein (square) as well.

When are you planning to come to Amsterdam ?

Love Dennis
