Will be in amsterdam in mid April. What would be your best suggestion for enjoying the KeukenhofmTulip festival . We would like to ride a bikes, have lunch and avoid the crowds .... is that possible?
That's Keukenhof!
If you mean the parade on 16 April, I can see no way you are going to avoid the crowds. While Keukenhof is only open March to May (see http://www.keukenhof.nl/) you could reduce the likelihood of crowds if you go on a working day and avoid the Easter holidays: but mid-April, I don't think you are going to have it to yourself.
We will be there before the 16th.
There are bicycles for hire next to the Keukenhof.
Both the Lisse and Noordwijk local tourist offices (VVV) have leaflets with hiking/cycling routes and addresses of local bicycly rental services.

The bicycle rental at Keukenhof also has various cycling routes.
The Keukenhof always attracts crowds but my advice is: buy your ticket online.
The Keukenhof does not 'feel' crowded. There are loads of people but it's not like you're 'shuffling'.
There are plenty of cycling routes in the provinces Zuid-Holland, Noord-Holland which will bring you along masses of colourful bulb fields.
There is also the 64st Bloemencorso of the "Bollenstreek", the area of the Keukenhof. It drives on Saturday 16 april from Noordwijk to Haarlem. The theme is Travel through Europa. http://www.bloemencorso.info/index.asp?lan=en
Starts at 9.30 uur from the boulevard (Seaside) in Noordwijk to Haarlem (arrival about 21.00). They pass the Keukenhof in the afternoon. In Haarlem you can look at the cars on Sunday 17 april till about 17.00 uur, but seeing the corso passing by is more fun. We used to go see it in the town of Lisse.

We started around 8:30 AM for the 3 1/2 hour drive to the airport in San Francisco. Got there with no traffic jams, parked our car with Skypark, shuttle to the airport, checked in our luggage, cleared security (not very intense, thankfully), got our flight at 3:30 PM, and away we go! Landed in Amsterdam around 11 AM, literally walked through Customs, and here we are at Schiphol Airport! Things looked a little familiar, since we had been here two years ago. We got some money and train tickets and boarded a very crowded train, with half of our luggage in my lap, to Centraal Station. When you get to Centraal Station you know you are in Amsterdam. It is an awesome building completed in the late 1800's, kind of new for Amsterdam!
Check out the Vondelpark in summer. It's green, relaxed and you can rent skates or just lie in the sun all day watching people go by. The canals in my neigbourhood, The Jordaan. The lighted bridges in the evening and the cute stores and restaurants.
Amsterdam is proud of its museums. One of the most famous museums of the Netherlands is situated in Amsterdam. The Rijksmseum contains many paintings by Holland's 17th century painters, such as Vermeer, Van Hals, and Rembrandt. The famous "Nightwatch" is one of their most prized pieces. The other famous Dutch painter in van Gogh, who has a whole museum, called "the Van Gogh Museum, dedicated solely to his work.
The Amsterdam Police Headquarter is located at the Elandsgracht 117.
The imposant figures on the frontwall are famous as is the words around them: "’T GEZAG DAT RUST BEHOEDT IN STAD EN STAAT, WAAKT RUSTLOOS TEGEN ’D ONRUST VAN HET KWAAD".
The police corps Amsterdam-Amstelland guards Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Diemen, Uithoorn and Ouder-Amstel, an area of 357 square meters where 900.000 people live.
The corps has about 6000 policemen with a yearly budget of 400 million Euros.
