Dorit Sofitel Hotel by Jimmyp41 My friends and I stayed at the newly built 4 star Dorint Sofitel for 4 nights over NewYear (29 Dec 03 - 2 Jan 04). The hotel staff were friendly and helpfull. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the beds very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was excellent and consisted of cold meats, cheeses, breads, pickled fish, juices, pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, burgers, hash browns etc. Breakfast is served until 10.30am. Only the gym, swimming pool and solarium are open all day. The sauna, steam room, health bar, sun beds are only open early morning/evening. There is a 24 hour sports bar with an american pool table, darts and table football. The hotel runs a free shuttle bus to and from the airport via another hotel. This service is NOT 24 hour. Frequent trains run to Amsterdam central from the airport (3.2 euros). A taxi from the airport to the hotel costs 20 euros, and from the centre of Amsterdam to the hotel~40 euros. We got a very good deal at the hotel and paid ?30 per night each for a twin room. I would recomend this hotel if you are considering staying at schipol. We only stayed here because we couldn't get accommodation in central Amsterdam. It was a bit of a hassle having to get a cab/train home each night, especially as there were 5 of us. But the luxury of the hotel made up for this. The only bad points were our key cards stopped working a few times and had to be reactivated. Also when checking out they tried to charge us for drinks we never had from the mini bar. I think they were having technical problems with their computor systems.
Facillities were fantastic. Rooms extremely comfortable.

The most comfortable hotel in whole Amsterdam! Unfortunately, it's quite out of the city; but the hotel offers a bus system which connects the same with the centre of Amsterdam! Rooms are wide, clean and well enlightened, with large soft beds and a comfortable leather black armchair. Breakfast is a transcendental experience: you can find everything from fish to sausages, from cereals to pan cake, eggs, cold cuts, croissants, bread with jam and much more! Lifts are wide, waiters and receptionists are affable and helpful. Absolutely the best hotel for people who love being comfortable and don't care not to be in the centre of the city!
As soon as you enter the room, lights turn on and a soft music starts playing. In the bathroom there's music as well! Every room has a TV, the possibility to make warm tea or chamomile and a flatiron. There are different lifts for customers and members of the staff. Unfortunately, I can't say anything about the price as I bought a package through a travel agency: I didn't spend too much, but I think you'll spend much more if you book a room on your own!
