It seems you enjoy cheap or free (who doesn't??) so check out this free 3 hour guided walking tour:

I did it last weekend with some foreign friends and we all enjoyed it a lot!
Cheers,
Dennis

Try the museum boat, it gives you a tour of the canals and you can get on and off at certain stops along the way. It doubles as transit. It isn't free though.

I don't kn ow how much time you will have in the Netherlands, but if time and money allows you, consider visiting one of the "Wadden" islands. Vlieland or Schiermonnikoog seems to for your preferences best.
How far inlands do you want to travel? The Hoge Veluwe might be a good alternative too.

Hi, I really loved the Waterland area. It is cheap and easy to get to. My favorite village was Broek in Waterland, it was a wet day, but still one of the prettiest, quaint villages I have seen. [have a travelogue of photo's]
Edam was another lovely one.

Hello,
Some other suggestions:
Go see the "hunebedden" or dolmen in the east of the country (see http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/6117e/70ff1/)
If you like to walk, check out my Netherlnads page, with lots of information about walking trails...E.g. the "klomenpaden" will take you mostly through rural areas. See http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/6117e/312/
The hilly south of the country also should be on your list, including a visit to Maastricht.

Seems your list "Best of Netherlands" is rather Amsterdam-orientated.
There's a whole lot more to The Netherlands, hope you will go out and explore.
