Perfect spirit of Amsterdam

IMPORTANT NOTE: "Get Lucky" is now called "Bed and Net". Still fantastic.

I telephoned looking for "Get lucky", where a group of friends had stayed in an apartment. I got through to a wonderfully calm and sleepy sounding guy - Alan - who didn't really know what I was talking about but booked me a room. When I arrived I understood. He and the lovely group of much younger people who help him run the place were pretty much constantly stoned!

My room was beyond quirky, and perfectly Amsterdam — the only way to be more so would be if it were squatted! It had a computer in it, as do all the rooms. Some have many. All have broadband plus an in-house collection of music and films, for pretty much all tastes. (Be warned!) Some rooms apparently have shisha pipes too. Mine came with a dog who decided she'd like to sleep on my bed every night. (I could easily have put her outside if I'd wanted, but that wasn't really in the spirit of the place!) Alan even managed to help me find parking in central Amsterdam. Basically this place rocked.

It proved hard to find on the internet until I realised it'd been renamed "Bed and net". It has rooms of various sizes from tiny twin/double up to apartments for several people. The apartments have self-catering facilities. All have wifi access. There are virtual tours of the rooms on their website.

The canal the place is by, and those alongside, have such things as Anne Frank's house and many galleries on them. Plenty of bars, cafés, restaurants, and fast food places nearby too.

Unique Quality: See the description of stay! Special laid-back atmosphere, good people, quirky inside, great location — perfect for first-timers to Amsterdam, and also lovers of it. Great internet connectivity too.
