300+ year old canal house
We have been to Amsterdam four times and they have each included a stay at the Hoksbergen. A good location (301 Singel) , not too close to the heavy tourist area, yet centrally located, AND on a canal. Close to Dam Square, the Jordaan, and the Leidsplien. Also close to the Floating Flower Market, Cafe Luxemborg.
The second floor rooms with the canal view are prime. The two of them are a little larger and closer to the ground (no elevator) . In 2002 they had aquired some apartments for rental. Go down in "accommodation tips".

Canal house
We looked out the window and they were filming an episode of "Travelers", a show seen in the U.S. I guess we weren't the only ones that liked the area.

Apartment
Even in shoulder season (next to peak season, at either end) the smaller hotels can get full. Hoksbergen itself was full this time but they had just acquired some apartments. The manager was willing to deal a little and we got a four night rate. It was close to Hoksbergen and a really great place. The apartment was actually spacious with a woodpaneled sunroom on the street side, a full kitchen, and a "jacuzzi" bathtub.

Small hotel at the Singel canal
Hotel Hoksbergen is located in a typical canal house with 19 rooms.
The breakfast is a continental buffet one.
The hotel also has five self-catering apartments/family-rooms with bathroom, tv and fully furnished kitchen at 200 meters distance.

Again, hotel in Amsterdam ...(don't be bored of this subject pls :-)
Hello nice people in VT,
My boyfriend and I are going to Amsterdam just for two nights. Could anybody reccomend a good and comfortable hotel (ehm,prefferably romantic but not really necessary as we're gonna browse the city whole day) to stay? I am not expecting him to pay for 4-5 stars hotel though so maybe a small and not too expensive.

I love the Hotel Hoksbergen. There are maybe 14 rooms there? Very nice staff, nice breakfast, rooms are comfortable, overlooking the Singel Canal, great location. This is their website:

Hotel Art Gallery - On Wetteringschans - opposite Rijksmuseum and a minute from Leidseplein. 2 stars - great breakfast - great staff - Say hi to Ed for me if you decide to stay there!! :)

The Albus Grande is a nice and friendly hotel, we stayed there 17th to 19th of april and had great time,it is across the road from the jolly carlton and only a few minutes walk to dam square.
