Bed bugs in Amsterdam hotels.
by breughel
Bad news for the clients of Amsterdam hotels.
It has been found that 20% of the hotels have bedbugs.
This information originates from Rentokil, a company active in the destruction of vermin, and was reported in the Dutch newspapers Het Parool and De Telegraaf of 4/07/2009.

Small and Well Priced
by zuriga about CONCERT INN
The Concert Inn (part of the AMS chain of Amsterdam hotels) is a small and simple place in a wonderful location. It's a two minute walk to the Concert Hall and about 5 to the Museumplein. The 16 tram was at our door and it's only a 30 minute drive from Schipol. The rooms were clean and the staff professional and helpful. The reception desk was next door at their sister hotel .. Ramada Museum Hotel.

Tipping
by dragontml
A service charge is generally included in restaurant prices and taxi fares, but it is usual to round the total up to the nearest Euro plus 10% for good service. Porters, doormen and room service in Amsterdam hotels will expect a small tip for their services.

I'm travelling to Amsterdam in Mid December and is likely to be there until Mid January,
Id like to ask if anyone knows of an affordable hotel in the Hague that would cost anything from Eur 20.00, Preferably with Internet connection,
This would really be helpful,

Hello. I'm trying to plan a weekend trip to Amsterdam in 2 weeks time for a group of 4. The problem is we are looking for a cheap hotel that's fairly central but as we will also have a car with us we would prefer a hotel with free / cheap parking . As this is probably rare are there any other parking solutions? as I guess we won't need the car much.
Also, one of the party would like the hotel to be in walking distance from a synagogue so that he can attend the saturday morning service. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks.

If you don't get any specific suggestions you might try shopping at HotelRoom.com,
http://tinyurl.com/emq8t. I've never used that service but they do list a lot of hotels.

Try: http://www.accorhotels.com/accorhotels/fichehotel/gb/mer/1032/fiche_hotel.shtml
Limited parking spaces, but it's one of the few hotels with spaces in the city center.
Alternatives:
One of the big hotels around the Schiphol Airport with free shuttle service to the Schiphol Train station.
or
F1 at Zaandam (free parking, 5 minutes walk to the station & a 12 minutes trainride).

Thanks Dukaat and pieter_jan_v that's really helpful I'll check out those websites.
Although parking is still important it looks like we won't need to be near a synagogue anymore. Are there certain areas of Amsterdam that are best to stay in? Are there areas that are best avoided?
Sorry for all the questions.... Thanks again:-)

As a tourist you will be fine anywhere in the city center.
Better check some general hotel sites with comments from other tourist on the hotels.

Pieter,
When you have a loooooong link like that you can use TinyURL.com to shorten it up. The 138 character link becomes http://tinyurl.com/gdatv.

I don't remember where the Singel was but DO NOT STAY AT THE REMBRANDT!! I have a vague memory of that hotel (surprising?). Depending on why you're visiting the Dam; you can't help but have a good time so don't worry too much about the hotel. The Botel was a bit out of the way but was alot of fun and they were very open-minded about things.
