Nice, but a bit far from the city centre

This is definitively a good place to stay. It's clean, comfortable and quiet. I had absolutely no trouble at all and staff was very nice. Even when I forgot the key (card) at the room, they solved the problem in less than 5 min.
Really comfortable bed. Big TV on the room with a lot of international TV channels (unfortunately no portuguese TV channels). Free wifi internet. The standard rooms didn't have hairdryer, but there were some available at the reception.

The down of this hotel is that it's far from the centre. The train, metro and bus station are pretty close, though (5 min). It's about 10 min from the centre (or ~20 min in rush hour) by bus. I don't know how long it would take by metro, because the metro was under maintenance and it was closed.
The access from the station to the hotel is poorly lit at night, I felt it was a bit unsafe, but nothing happened to me during all my stay.

Don't forget the 5% city tax over your reservation.

Tip: breakfast is not included, but they have a small shop at the reception with fruit, pastry and juices. A bit expensive, so I'd recommend the Albert Heijn supermarket at Amstel station as alternative.

(August 2011)

Unique Quality: Clean, comfortable and quiet. Free wifi internet.

Hotel Casa 400 Amsterdam

I would recommend this hotel to everybody who does not mind not staying in the center.

The hotel is very new and comfortable with a good and complete breakfast. Wifi and minibar in all rooms.

It is not in the center but very near (5 minutes on foot) Amstel station (train and tram), a very convenient station because is not as overcrowded as Central station and trips from/to Schipol airport are cheaper. if you want to visit Rotterdam or Den Haag, trips from this stations also are cheaper than from the Central Station.

Inside the station there is a supermarket (from 6 a.m. to midnight) and several fast food places in case you arrive late at night.

The only negative point of the hotel is standard rooms have not hair-dryer.

Budget Summer Hotel

Very basic, simple, clean but outdated. Breakfast was awkwardly interesting, though its just basic cold meats, bread and pastry along with coffee and juices but some authentic dutch taste that i experienced especially the cumin cheese and chilli spice chicken slices for breakfast which got to do with the former colony in indonesia.

The property
Its actually a student accommodation but they turn into a hotel during summer to accomodate tourist. so i didnt have high expectation of the room interior and hotel facilities as it was a very good value, two nights stay near the town and walkable to Amstel station

Cost
Amsterdam Budget package at £159 per person includes return trip by coach, b & b two nights, tour guide for Amsterdam, Volendam & Brugges was a good deal suitable for travellers on budget and student. More details on www.andersontours.co.uk

Near the Amstel station: Casa 400

I've been to the hotel, not for a stay, but to attend the annual Dutch Radio Days.

The hotel is partly used for housing students from October till May.

In 2007 construction of a new building started at 200 meters from the former location at the James Wattstraat. The new hotel opened in May 2010.

In stead of the old concept, now there are 151 room available whole year long; from July to September this number increases to 520.

There is a basement parking for low cars only.

Unique Quality: Location at the Amstel Station (10 minutes walk to the hotel at 600 meters NE from the Amsterdam Amstel Station).

The station offers train, metro, tram and many (national) bus connections.

Pros - Nice modern hotel. Reasonable rates, decent sized rooms, spacious bathrooms. Good meals in hotel restaurant. Quiet neighborhood.

Cons - Rather distant from downtown sites. Subway stop is a good 10-15 minute walk away. Nothing to see in this part of town.

More of a businessman's hotel than tourist, but price is tough to beat in expensive Amsterdam. Open June 1 - October 1. Largest 3 star hotel in Amsterdam.

TransporTation :)

by maribel85

Hi agaiiin!! I have some more doubts about my trip to Amsterdam hope you can help me:

1. What would be the best way (taxi might be expensive i guess) to get from Amsterdam Central Station to my hotel: Casa 400 Hotel Amsterdam James Wattstraat 75 1097 CL Amsterdam.

2. Is there a place in *Schiphol Airport* where you can store your lugagge for some days???

Thank You!! :D

Yes there are lockers at Schiphol-Amsterdam airport. Between 4-9 euros per 24 hours (depending on size). Max. 7 days. Check on www.schiphol.nl
Take care on the schiphol trains with your belongings.

There is also an attended luggage office at Schiphol next to the lockers. Take the elevator waaay down. I left my bags there for three weeks.

Casa 400 (a former student apartment building) is close to the Amstel Station.
You could travel all the way by train (changing trains at Station Duivedrecht)

Furthermore the Amstel Station is served by Metro 51, 53 or 54 or tram 12 (and 8 local busses).
