Transport questions

by SwedeSarah

I have a couple of questions that I haven't been able to find the answer to yet. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out! :)

1. I'm planning on taking bus 197 or 300 from Schiphol to Amsterdam. Is it possible to pay the driver in cash? I used the strippenkaart last time, but as it's no longer in use, I need to find another option.

2. I'm going to buy a 48h travel pass for the local transport in Amsterdam. I think you'll get a disposable OV chipkaart for this ticket. Is it enough to just validate it on the first journey? My Dutch friend couldn't even find a clear answer to this. She suggested to check in and check out every time when using trams, just in case.

Thanks again in advance! :)

When using the trams in A'Dam, you definitely need to use your pass both getting on and off.....each time.....

Never having used the bus from Schiphol I can't be certain but I think that you can buy a ihr ticket from the driver/conductor for 2.60 Euro.

Yes you still have to check in and out every journey. If you check in but not out the computer might think that you are still on that journey and not allow you to check in at the start of your next journey.

I took bus 190 from Leidseplein to Schiphol in Sept and was able purchase ticket from the driver.

Bus # 197 has a direct service to the Museumplein and Leidseplein squares.
You still can buy a ticket at the bus driver (but it's being out-phased).

With a 48 hours pass you just check in and out each time you travel (the number of check ins/outs is unlimited within 48 hours from your first check in.

If the weather is good have a nice slow walk through the Vondel park. Nearly all of Amsterdam will in there especially in the weekend. It's a great place to relax and check out the people. Two memories.
1-On sunny winter mornings or any sunny day biking over the canal bridges.
2-sitting in the sun on a terrace on by some canal enjoying a beer, chatting with friends. summers in general basically.

Cafe Hans et Grietje

by CoAir13

After a long day of walking in the cold, we stopped in this cafe for something warm to drink! I decided on hot chocolate. The server was VERY friendly and was sure to ask how much whipped cream I wanted!!

Take a trip to Zaanse Schans.

by sheryl_tan

If you have not seen a traditional windmill yet, then a visit to Zaanse Schans is going to be a worthwhile experience. You've seen enough pictures of beatiful windmills, so why don't go and see the real thing itself?
