Not impressed (understatement)!!
Upon arrival in Amsterdam, I checked into the Hotel Hortus along with my partner and four friends. We had booked 4 double rooms between 6 people. After producing our paperwork, the manager (didn't catch his name) said that he had let all the rooms and all 6 of us would have to share one room - despite the fact he said he remembered receiving our e-mail booking. He then tried to charge us the same price per person for one room! We told him this was unacceptable as we had paid a 10% deposit to secure 4 rooms. Although he eventually gave in (albeit reluctantly) and said we would pay for 4 people rather than 6 when we checked out, his manner was extremely abrupt and trying to get the deposit back proved a challenge. He seemed furious at the fact that we had dared to complain! On top of all this, when we had a problem with the light switch in our room (it kept flickering and wouldn't turn on properly) another member of staff was extremely unhelpful, not to mention plain rude! We practically had to beg him to come to our room and have a look at it! NOT IMPRESSED!

Hotel Hortus
Hotel Hotrus is located near the zoo. It is a good place to say if you want something very cheap and very very simple. The facility is clean, but I would not recomend it if you want to have a plce to "hang out." Its good if all you care about is a comfterble bed and a shower! You can pretty much walkl any where from here. Walking time to Red light district is about 15 mins. The tram stop is around the cornner as well.

Hey My two best friends and I are going to ams on april 8 or 9. I was wounder is somebody can tell me about cheap places to stay.

you can expect to pay about 25-30 Euros per person. if you want to stay in a party sort of place thats real close to the train station and everything, stay at the flying pig. if you want to stay in a more laid back place, thats a tram ride, or 10 min walk from the train station, i recommend the hotel hortus.
