Five Star? I don't think so
by TripAdvisor Member mpgm
Not a great experience, right from check in. I asked for a canal view and was immediately hit with an extra 35euro per night charge. The room was new and the bathroom was excellent...with a tv built into the wall!
I went for a swim - and it was freezing, but the best bit was yet to come...I was charged 14euro for the pleasure! (In a five star?)
If you have forgotten your razor, you pay. If you need anything, you pay.
On the positive side, the breakfast was excellent and most staff (except reception ) were on the ball and helpful. The consierge was super and booked an indian and chinese that were both excellent.
It is much closer to the Airport than the city,so not really an excellent choice for a few days break.
Would I use it again? No,and no way can it claim to be five star -except when it comes to charging.
Loved the Okura

Stayed from the 26-28 oct and loved the hotel, check in was 2pm we arrived about 9.30 and was let into our room straight away. The room was large and comfortable and the bathroom was fantastic, yes it is expensive for breakfast, but when you stay in a 5* hotel what do you expect, also try out the french restaurant on the 23rd floor, very nice. would definatly stay here again and would recommend it to everyone (and im very fussy!!!)
A bit hit and miss

I have stayed twice at the Okura in the past 12 months. The first time, I got a room upgrade to a 'luxury room'. This room category is fantastic, very spacious with plasma TV's in both the bedroom and the bathroom. Also a nice walk-in shower. This year, I stayed in a standard room and although there is nothing 'wrong' with it, it is not 5 star quality. Not all that spacious and definitely dated. No power outlets to charge phone etc (except for the shaver outlet in the bathroom).
The service is generally very good, but when I asked to leave a parcel at the concierge to be collected a few hours later by a friend, I got fobbed of by 'try the business centre', where they had no idea why I was sent there.
As mentioned in numerous other reports, the charges for everything (WiFi Internet, Health Centre, Mini bar) are outrageous.
All in all, not value for money, unless you get a room upgrade!
Stay Away From This Hotel

Booked the hotel through Otel/GTA and was shocked at the condition of the room given to me. It was so dusty that the room made me sneeze incessantly and I'm a smoker! The room I was booked into was a standard room. Quite frankly you can not call this hotel 5 star. It deserved a 3 star rating. Renovations were going on and if you get an old room you'll know what I mean by tired and worn. I tried to get an upgrade but was told by the duty manager that they have a policy of not upgrading anyone for free- not what I read in the previous reviews here. I then asked that I pay for an upgrade but because of the inconvenience of repacking and changing rooms maybe they can throw in free internet access or something else as a gesture of goodwill particularly when I explained that I come to Amsterdam very often and can give repeat business. The duty manager was very firm and said why should they? wow! quite frankly I have never had that sort of remark from anyone in the hotel industry before and I used to be permanenty checked into a hotel for a period of 2 years. I can not recommend this hotel to anyone and the location is far from the centre of town. I will never stay there again as it was my worst ever hotel experience.
