 | Amsterdam Hotel Old Quarter Reviews | Tips 1 - 3 of 3 | | | | | | Hotel Old Quarter: Right in the heart of the Red Light District
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Located in the heart of the Red Light District, this quaint little hotel is perfect for a first time visitor to Amsterdam (ie me) who wants a central base to explore about. A decent breakfast of bread, eggs and coffee was included in the roomrate. No complains there.
There is a lively pub at the hotel. Its pretty cool as there is a little stage there where musicians have some jam sessions ~ their Jazz sessions are remarkable. The smoked-filled cosy but crowded pub with live music makes it really charming. So, when one is bored of hanging out at the numerous coffee shops and looking at girls in the windows, its a nice change ;-) The rooms, located on top of the pub are decent, clean but small. Just enough room for the bed, a little table, a cupboard and a washbasin. Toilets and showers are outside. The windows look out to other small hotels opposite (and that can be quite entertaining as well, although I didnt really caught anything worthwhile to see then ... ). Its surprisingly very quiet at night and that, to me, was the most surprising thing of all. Leave a Comment

 | | | | Hotel Old Quarter: Where We Stayed
| | | | |
Making the decision of what hotel to stay at was, by far, the hardest part of the trip...at least for me. When we decided, I did a search on Google for the chosen one and not a whole lot came up...was this a good sign...or a bad sign? Eventhough we were just a wee bit leary due to the lack of reports/opinions expresssed, we threw caution to the wind and made the reservation. This turned out to be one of the best decisions we made! The Hotel Old Quarter is a really nice hotel. Here's something I don't get...you get what you pay for ok, and if you pay cheep, how/why would you expect to get The Hilton, for 40 euro or less? For this amount you most likely will not have facilities in your room, or room service, again if this is what you need, the 5 star hotels will give that to you for somewhere around 150-200 euros per night, perhaps more. But we went cheep...the rooms were a bit small...and that's really all I can complain about....
The showers and bathroom were all brand new...at least new with-in the past 1 year. It was incredably clean. The bed I had wasn't like my own, but it was a comfortable, dry and warm. There's actually 2 different parts of this hotel, one side...in the rear of the building, has a lift, (elevator), the other side, to the right as you walk in only has steps. So mention you need a lift, or that you'd like a room in the rear. The view from our room was of the canal and the Damrak. The whole place is clean and very well run. Beyond that is a little laundrymat, you can wash clothes and burn a few fatties. Walking distance from Central Station and Dam Square.
