Don't forget to look up!
by kymbanm
I was amazed at the architecture of Amsterdam .. there are niches on the wall of buildings overlooking the canals with saints and other decorative items; gables of wonderful intricacy; statues on the tops of buildings ...... I'm not an architect, and certainly don't know the proper terms - but be sure to look up as you are wandering the city to experience another wonderful sight on every block! This is a detail of the top of Koninklijk Palace in Dam Sqaure - though a palace is supposed to have this sort of detailing - you'll find this sort of thing EVERYWHERE!!!

Sleep, drink and smoke at The Greenhouse Effect. This place is a hotel, bar and coffeeshop and must not be missed.
Warmoesstraat 53~55
http://www.greenhouse-effect.nl/ You don't have memories when you get back from Amsterdam. Well there is one.. a good friend of mine has just moved there and seeing her settled in her gorgeous pad overlooking the canals was pretty special... (green-eyed monster made an appearance)

They're all over the place and just beautiful. Some are crooked - don't worry, it's not you. (Even if you have been in a coffeeshop.) I never got tired of walking around this city and looking at these.

Still being in high spirits of seeing the sun in Amsterdam (the 1st time in my two trips there!!!!), I decided to take this pic....
Just imagined that if there had been leaves on trees, one might have thought that it's Summer or Spring.... :)))
Somewhere opposite Vondelpark....
GETTING AROUND.....PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION...
by eden_teuling
AMSTERDAM has 17 tram lines, 37 bus lines and 3 subway lines, all of those routes are shown on a free map provided by the GVB.
The Circle Tram - line 20 - is especially attractive for tourists, as it provides a very cheap tour of the city, linking all MAJOR ATTRACTIONS.
Single trip tockets are available from the conductor on most tram routes, or, more economically, purchase a multi-trip ticket (known as a STRIPPENKAART) at the GVB, Amsterdam Tourist Office (VVV), most tobaconists and supermarkets.
The GVB Publik Transportations Office is in front of Centrral Station where you will find a route map and an English - Language guide to the ticketing system.
There is also a beautiful new one on track too, inside the station, which is open the longest (8.00AM - 8 PM)
Or call for info: GVB - tel. 0900 92 92
