This is a good spot!
ARRGHH!! This hotel was chosen by a close friend of mine that spent his vacation,with his girlfriend,
just the week following our stay in Amsterdam...and he came back really satisfy!!
Pratically it's located in the trou centre of the Red LIght District,not more that 10min. from the central station and,I add,not more than 10sec from our grasy-spoon...! :(
It is absolutely clean and characterized by a cozy atmosphear,with a very nice Dutch staff also!
Unique Quality: GREAT idea the Irish pub just inside the hotel!! It is opened 24/24(!) only for the hotel guest!
And if you are a smoker..no problem,you can smoke joints inside!

cheap budget hotels (pls help!!:)
hi
i was looking at these 2 hotels to stay at
1) dam square (Damrak 31, Amsterdam )
2) hotel aspen (Raadhuisstraat 31)
which one is the better option? they are both around the same price
any other options?
also i will be there from the 28th morning to the 29th afternoon....if any vt'ers wanna meet up, let me know..

I myself wouldn't stay on the Damrak on a bet, but maybe you like that scene. It's noisy and busy at all hours, filled with big groups of young loud tourist people who've had too much to drink. The pizzerias are mediocre at best and there are junkies and panhandlers everywhere. It's like any other sleazy train station neighborhood tourist street, with the added attraction of Amsterdam's reputation for drugs pulling in a different class of tourist.
Raadhuisstraat is a busy multi lane street (Quite close to my part time home) but a bit more of a livable area, to my mind. The two streets are about 5 minutes apart by foot, if that.

my only concern is my safety....i don't want to be robbed....i will obvously try and avoid such people by ignoring them if they come up to me......
should i just get to centraal station then ask the "hotel" counter they have there for reccomendations?
or should i just book this now....if u have any other places in mind, please let me know..

Amsterdam is very safe. Damrak isn't dangerous, just monumentally annoying. Beware especially of pickpockets, but nobody will actually attack you.
There's a whole group of budget hotels on Raadhuisstraat, very central and convenient, but since I actually live in a private house part-time I don't have any specific hotel recommendations. The city is packed with hotels and I suppose if you go to tourist information and state your requirements thay will set you up.

1) Hotel Torenzicht (Oudezijds Achterburgwal 93)
2) Quentin Arrive Hotel (Haarlemmerstraat 65)
please tell me which one is in a safer /better area.....thanks!
