Hip hotel with small rooms

The hotel selection in Amsterdam is quite polarized; there are really good and expensive hotels, and really bad and inexpensive hotels. Trying to find a hotel that does not cost a fortune, and has good rooms, decent breakfast, and nice location can be hard.

Hotel V somewhat fits the bill. It is a design hotel, in other words, a lot of time and energy has been put to the surroundings, rooms, and generic atmosphere. Despite being in a crummy neighbourhood, Hotel V has been able to execute this pretty well.

Our room was small, as most hotel rooms tend to be in Amsterdam -- there are huge ones, too, I've even slept in such a room. The room looked way bigger in the pictures, so be warned. The breakfast was excellent, and service in general was nice. Free WLAN is always a good perk.

The hotel location is not the best, it is a bit out of the city centre, though near the museum sector. Tram is a good option, and it takes about fifteen minutes to reach the central station. We had booked a bike special, and rode around the town for a day -- excellent way to see the city, and also get to the places.

Just a lovely place

We have stayed in Hotel V for 5 days while in A'dam and were not disappointed. Although on the map the hotel seems a little outside of the city, it is actually a mere 5-10 ride on the tram to the actual centre. The benefit being a quiet neighbourhood with a supermarket near by and some homely restaurants just round the corner.

Unique Quality: Although the facilities at the hotel are basic i.e. no pool/gym etc (but hey, who needs them in A'dam anyway), the rooms are nice and fairly spacious and the breakfast was a typical dutch grub which offers enough option for any taste and preference.

Where to stay for New Years in Amsterdam

by LFCSLK

Hello, My husband and I are planning 3 nights over New Year's in Amsterdam. We want to stay at a nice budget hotel - my only requirements are that it's a private room with a private bath and is clean. I'd like to be in central Amsterdam. Can you recommend a website to book hotels in Amsterdam or even certain hotels that meet my criteria. I'm concerned that some of the hotel booking sites may quote me a cheaper price, but could arrive at the hotel and have no reservation or a much higher rate. Thank you!

Act fast, because traditionally there will be many visitors like you and it's a kind of high season (high prices as well).

I recommend you look just outside the canal beld, around the Vondelpark or in the museum quarter.
There are many smaller hotels, offering what you are looking for.

Have a look at http:/www.visitamsterdam.nl
and goto look&book - Accommodation; at advanced searh you can fill in your preferences (like 3 star hotel, private bathroom etc..).

Central Amsterdam will be noisy at NYE: many people on the streets, Loud music at the DAM square, constant fireworks.

BTW No public transport on NYE from 8PM to an hour after midnight.

Hi LFCSLK,
I can highly recommend the Canal House Hotel, check out their website www.canalhouse.nl It's a delightful hotel in a brilliant location near the Anne Frank house, the Jordaan area and the Westerkerk, only a short walk from Dam Sq.
Rooms are about 150 euros including breakfast, not terribly cheap I know but budget hotels in Amsterdam can be real fleapits so it's worth paying a bit extra if you're only going for a few days. New Years is a real blast in Amsterdam but you'd need to book right away as it's a very popular time.
Hope you have a great time,
Anne Marie

My boyfriend and I are traveling to Amsterdam for New Years. I had a hard time finding a room recently but I finally booked at Hotel Arena. It has some bad reviews but we're not incredibly picky.

Good Luck!

Hi!
There are so many nice hotels in Amsterdam. If you look for a really nice one got to the NL Hotel (http://www.noovee.com/index.php?id=220) or the Hotel V (http://www.noovee.com/index.php?id=223). They are modern, clean, central and very friendly.

Best, Tini
