Perfect location!
What a great hotel! Right across from the Royal Palace and about 1KM to Central Station. The Anne Frank House was about a 10min walk, and of course this area is the tourist capital, so there are plenty of souvenir shops, restaurants, and coffee shops in any direction you choose to walk. Not to mention the red light district is right around the corner (literally). My room faced an alley where all the shopping and restaurants are,but it really wasn't loud at all. There's a great cheese shop right down that alley.
There's a trolly stop right across the street if you choose that method of transportation.
The Winter Garden restaurant has a wonderful breakfast buffet every morning.

As Centraal As It Gets
To anyone who needs a central location from where to see Amsterdam I would highly recommend the Kras. Walking distance from Centraal Station. It isn't the most affordable of locations, but some people don't have much choice (see below). If you book very early and arrive before or just before peak season you can get some pretty good deals on room rates. Atmosphere was wonderful and the service was excellent. I would stay there again given the same choices I had. However, I know how to get around the city now and would likely stay somewhere less central, thus less expensive.
Unique Quality: The highest priority for my visit was handicap accessiblility. It is a sad fact that most hotels do not have this type of accomodation. The Kras was one of the few exceptions. Despite the age of the original building they did have a room that met all my needs as a wheelchair-user. It is sad that they didn't have more rooms this accessible. If you have special needs you should book early and ask for details. Just because someone say that a room is "accessible" doesn't mean that it meets all your needs. Keep this in mind wherever you're thinking of staying. With the exception of the incredibly steep ramp up the front of the hotel and the cramped elevator a wheelchair-user should have no problem. For a city with very little disabled accessible accomodations this is very high praise indeed.

Unique Quality: Hotel with a history! Nice sized rooms right on the Dam across the street from the National Palace.
