Hotels were too expensive - B&B was our choice
When we decided to go to Amsterdam, where we were going to stay was our first concern. Hotels on the net just seemed too expensive, so we decided to look at B&B's. Location was the the next concern. Our decision was the Maes B&B. We made the right decision, the emails back and forth cleared up any questions we had and the directions how to get there from the airport were right on. We arrived early in the morning abot 9am, we were met by Vladimir, one of the owners and he told us to leave our luggage in the side room and then took us to breakfast. Then we met Arnel, the jack of all trades, he makes breakfast, cleans the rooms and makes sure you needs are met. During breakfast we met the other owner Ken. We got to see the owners everyday and they were very helpful in making suggestions where to go and how to get there. The room was large, and clean, and plenty of room for your clothes. the private bathroom, although up another flight of stairs was large and clean. When we read about Maes B&B there was some concern about the stairs, I am 70 and my wife is 68, no problem, consider it exercise. The location could not have been better. Shops, restaurants, places to sit outside and people watch. Not too far from the Anne Frank Museum, close but not too close to the Red Light District and train station. Also right around the corner from a couple of very nice markets. There was also an internet available, free, any time you wanted to use it and the kitchen was open 24/7 for your use. A couple of time we brought back stuff from the deli and ate at the outside area right off the kitchen. Kept beer and soda in the refrig.
Maes B&B (also Hedren B&B next door, same owners) was great. Arnel really took care of us and Vladimir and Ken were always there to help us out. They arranged for a taxi back to airport, which was cheaper than what we paid for coming to the B&B. Overall, great trip, great B&B, great breakfast, and reasonable price. Location was also great.
Unique Quality: The staff - Arnel and the two owners Vladimir and Ken, were always availble to take care of your needs.
