Giving up my tripple room on Wed 25 May

I have booked a tripple room on Wednesday 25th May at Manofa Hotel, right on the Damrak of Amsterdam. However, after reading the review, I think it's not very suitable for an elderly family member travelling with me. I would like to give up this room for anyone who wants it for half price (from €94 to €47). Contact: itishoong@gmail.com

You get what you pay for

I stayed here from 30 th aug to 2nd sep 2007. As a woman traveller travelling alone, i felt very safe here. After booking the hotel i read various bad reviews and nearly stayed somewhere else! However, when i arrived the receptionist was very welcoming and helpful. My room was on the first floor not far from reception (which is manned 24/7)

I opted for the budget room, which had a single bed, wardrobe, washbasin, and a chair. I was pleased to find that the bed and the sheets were very clean, and clean towels were provided.

The shared shower was next door to my room, and the toilet was just down the hallway.
Continental Breakfast was provided in the italian restaurant downstairs. My only complaint is that due to my room being close to reception i could hear the door slamming,as guests came in at night.

Unique Quality: The hotel is situated on a very busy street which is 200 yards from Centraal Station. It is very convenient for restaurants, trams, taxis etc. All the local tourist areas are very near here and the red light district is less than 5 mins walk away.

The rooms laminated floor was washed every day, and clean towels were provided.

I would stay here again as i think you get what you paid for and if you dont plan to spend much time in the room it is an ideal base to see amsterdam.

ok if you just need to pass out

I stayed here with 3 friends in a room that was smaller than Anne Frank's. No joke. We were approached by a guy right outside of the train station who took us to the hotel and got us a fairly good rate on a room for the four of us. We were more than disappointed when we saw the room and were moved to a bigger room the next night. The worst part about the hotel wasn't the facilities, or even price (we felt the staff was very understanding and was ready to accomodate), but the crowd that was occupying the hotel was COMPLETELY rowdy all hours of the night. We were all fairly certain there was a fight in the early AM while we were sleeping one night. I'm not sure I'd stay here again, but it was an experience to say the least.

Unique Quality: The location was very close to the train station, which was convenient for day trips etc.

Doing It's Best But Still Scruffy!

This is a scruffy old hotel, but scruffy in a sort of well-worn way, rather than dirty. This hotel is firmly fixed in its 1* bracket despite its aspirations for higher things but for an overnight stay in the centre of the city in late June it fulfilled its function as a place to dump my bag before going out and then as a place to get my head down on returning in the very early hours.

This is definitely not the sort of hotel to book into for a romantic weekend, but it is cheapish and the rooms were pretty much as advertised - I think the hairdryer in the bathroom is their stab at 2* status!

My single room was tiny, as was the bed and the window and the wardrobe and the TV and the ashtray and..................Mind you having said that virtually every hotel I have stayed in here has had small rooms.

I probably wouldn't stay here again unless I really needed to be this central and couldn't get anywhere else, but don't let that put you off, I am getting a bit fussy about my hotels these days.

Unique Quality: For centrality and easyness to find the location on Damrak, maybe 100 metres from Cetraal Station, is great. Reception was friendly and helpful.

Breakfast is served in the downstairs restaurant but I gave it a miss (what with not getting up until 11) but reports reckon its pretty naff.

One warning - the hotel is on 5 floors and there is no lift!

Hotel Touts at Centraal Station

Mari and I arrived at Centraal Station with no guidebook but had directions to the Pig and Whistle. As soon as we left the station a man came up and asked if we needed accomodation. We listened to him and he said we could stay in a double room for 40 guilders. We followed him to the Manofa and the receptionist said 60 guilders but when we repeated what the tout said they let us stay in a very clean room with a nice window fro 40 guilder each. It also included a huge breakfast at the restaurant downstairs. Cheaper than a 39 bed dorm at the P&W

Unique Quality: Friendly staff, excellent free breakfast, central to everything.

More about Manofa Hotel Amsterdam

Not a bad as everyone says

by A TripAdvisor Member

Two friends and I stayed at the Hotel Manofa (three girls). I had booked the hotel before I checked trip advisor. I was quite worried after I read the reviews. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The ladies at the front desk were always very helpful our entire stay. We were on the top floor, which is a very long hike up the steep and narrow staircase. We paid for a budget room which meant we shared the bathroom and showers with the floor and no TV (which was not a big deal, we were always going somewhere). Our room was very clean, it needed a fresh coat of paint but other than that is was nice. The showers and bathrooms were always clean. They even had a bathroom for just girls which we greatly appericated. If you are use to a Comfort Inn, please don't stay here it is a two star hotel but they do try their best. We never did make it to the morning breakfast, so I cannot tell you what to expect there. We saw no rodents and had no bed bugs. If you want your own bathroom and TV just pay alittle extra for the nicer rooms (a family told us their room was very nice, it was what it looked like on the internet). It is noisy in the early morning when the streetcars and buses start running but wasn't enough to keep me awake (I guess just depends how light of a sleeper you are). I was happy with the hotel for the price we paid. Oh, we never saw any "shady characters in the hotel lobby".

We should have know right away when a somewhat desperate guy approached us in Central Station offering us a room at his hotel for a cheap price. Once the guy walked us to the hotel of course the price was in fact higher than what he had said. It was still a good deal so we took a room. The pillows were dirty. Loud music next-door and shady characters in the reception area... that's not really what bothered us most. It was the little bed bugs we found!! Gross. Sorry but I would prefer not to have lice or whatever infesting on me while I sleep! The good thing was that the hotel, while 'shocked', gave us a full refund.... I guess if you bring a bed bug disinfectant this would be an ok hotel???

Damn Hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

I've stayed in some fairly cheap accommodation previously but this was by far the worst. Opening the window I looked out on overflowing guttering clogged up with (cigarette) butts. The TV didn't work and the room hadn't been cleaned particularly well after the previous guests. The stairs were a hassle (we were on the fourth floor) but I was more concerned about getting out in the event of a fire (a hotel in Paris burnt down the day we arrived which is why this was on my mind). I wasn't sure whether I'd stumbled in on some kind of asylum hostel judging by the people hanging round the reception.
About a week before we were due to arrive I got a phone call saying they'd mislayed our confirmation and we would no longer have our own bathroom. I kicked up a fuss and (un)luckily they managed to sort it out. I now wish they hadn't and we had been forced to go elsewhere.

Bed bugs

by A TripAdvisor Member

You get what you pay for with a 2 star but since returning from a 3 night stay at the Manofa I've been itching from bed bugs.

The room was very noisy due to it being on the main road and also some the light switches were broken in the room which caused some problems.

There's plenty of other hotels about and would suggest to look around rather than staying here. Have previosuly stayed at the Jolly Hotel Carlton, 4 star, very nice and also the Hotel Luxer. Good price and good location.

No bed bugs here!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Indeed you get what you pay for. It is situated right where you want to be and it`s cheap. The room was adequate and clean, the bed linen changed every day. We found the staff to be very helpfull. With breakfast thrown in and a discount in the restaurant down stairs, it was a good deal. If you want five star, go pay for it.

Room broken into

by A TripAdvisor Member

On a stag weekend we booked into this hotel and were given a 5 bed room. 10 mins later the receptionist told us we had the wrong room and were moved to another one. No explanation was given for this room change.

Imagine our suprise when returning from a night out to find that the bags had been moved and items were missing from a locked room! On reporting it to the staff the said "you must have left the window open". The room is on the 3rd floor and James Bond wouldnt have risked the 30ft fall onto the main street below. The attitude of the staff was terrible and the police only called after hours of wrangling. We highly suspect staff inside involvement in the burglary and I would advise no one to stay here.

Yes it is central, but pay a bit extra and go somewhere else.
