It was very pleansant and the main benefit is that many sites are within an easy walking distance. It is right on the tram rail. The flower market, which is fantastic to walk through 3 blocks of flowers is only one block away. Keep going over the first canal and turn left to go to Red Light area about 1 1/2 miles.
Rooms were very clean and the service and staff were some of the most helpful in our 14 day trip. It was quiate insdie, even though on a thorfare street. There is parking on the premises.
Unique Quality: The quaint eating area with the Swiss theme was nice. I enjoyed the buffet food, and a fair amount was of local tradition and tastes.

This is listed as a four-star hotel, but I'd put it somewhere between three and four. For Europe the price was reasonable value. Check around because rates vary dramatically by date, on one day they can be double the previous day!
It's not new but is well maintained, clean and comfortable and in a great location.
The rooms are a reasonable size, comfortable bed, all the usual amenities.
Staff were friendly and helpful and all we dealt with spoke excellent English.
Unique Quality: Easy to find, it's right next to the Flower Market and just an easy short stroll into the city centre.
We were more interested in experiencing the city itself so we didn't use the facilities, other than breakfast which was very good.
One thing I found strange was that instead of an iron and board there was a trouser press.

Jolly Hotel Carlton is located in the center of Amsterdam right on the flower market. It has every comfort a hotel of its class should offer, plus a cafe and a luxury restaurant offering italian cuisine.
An important thing for me, it has 2 spacious elevators...
Rooms are comfortable, more spacious than the average in Amsterdam with a king size bed, a big tv, a desk with wireless and wired internet, a minibar and a spacious bathroom.
The minibar is a bit pricey, and the internet, offered by Swisscom, goes at 24Euros per 24 hours. So any extra is actually pricey. For the internet you could also use the computer available in the Hall, it costs a bit less, but if you're without a laptop and need the internet I would recommend going to some internet cafe.
The room I had was a superior double room, it looked on the busy vizelstraat, but it was totally quiet, no noise could come in unless you opened the window.
I was here in August so aircondition is a must and well, for my taste it was barely functioning and tuning the controls didn't change anything... it was not that bad anyway.
Even the restaurant is pricey, but i think you should dine there at least once.
The front desk personnel was friendly and helpful, apart from a few ppl (particularly in the night) who were just corteus.
Anyway there were really helpful in helping me recover lost baggage and reserve for special tours.
In the end I recommend this hotel if you have some money to spend and you won't be disappointed. Also if you look at websites such as bookings.nl you could get a special price like i did.
Unique Quality: Great location, good views, very comfotable, close to shopping avenues and lots of restaurants and coffee shops.

From the moment we arrived, we knew we would enjoy ourselves. The staff were friendly & efficient, the coffee was good, and the rooms were comfortable & airy. The Room we had was quite large & spacious, and the en-suite facilities were large & clean. Food was excellent.
Unique Quality: Fall out the door from the bar and you are in the flower market. Lots of shopping on the doorstep, and a major Tram Junction just outside, too. Ideally situated for travelling to any part of the city, by tram, bus, canal or cycle.

I have stayed in about 8 different hotels in Amsterdam, but I have come back to this one the last 6 times and will always come back to this one. No, it is not cheap, but you can usually find it for around 100 to 120 euro a night on a hotel booking site. The best thing about this hotel is that it has it's own parking garage. While you have to pay extra for it, you don't have to worry about parking and they let you stay in there even after you check out. The hotel is also on an easy street to drive down, making it a hassle free trip. The staff are also incredibly friendly and helpful. The location is perfect, across from the english movie theatre, next to the flower market, one street over from the main drag and a few minutes from dam square. The hotel rooms are always clean, spacious and quiet. The only beef about the hotel is that there is only one restaurant that is high end, but then again, there are so many places next door, food is not a concern.

I have never had a bummy hotel, they have all been great. I have stayed in 'The Jolly Carlton' 'The Luxor' 'GT hotel Inntel' 'the Lacanna'. The Jolly Carlton is very comfy and quite plush. I loved all the little extras like dressing gowns and slippers.
One tip though, its a lot cheaper to book hotel at last minute, as opposed to the airlines being the opposite- they are cheaper to book in advance.
Unique Quality: One thing that spoiled this hotel. I asked for a nice view and I got a view of a deserted alleyway. It was not good.

Not knowing anything about Amsterdam beforehand, I was pretty happy about the hotel's location. You can easily walk everywhere in the city center.

The Lacanna is better suited for groups of guys. The rooms werent terribly spotless or spacious but the street view from the large windows is ace
One tip though, its a lot cheaper to book hotel at last minute, as opposed to the airlines being the opposite- they are cheaper to book in advance. It has 3 floor, one of which is dedicated to pooltables
We stayed 2 nights at the Jolly Carlton a week ago and paid around 110Eur per night (don't pay more than this). The room was okay, the deco was a little too 80s style rather than 4*. We were on the 6th floor with a nice view of the city. The best part of the hotel was its quality service. The staff was very helpful in calling museums for me after I had lost my camera in one. They were always around and very very helpful. The location is also very good, its right by the flower market with tons of beautiful flowers everywhere, very lovely!!
Overall, I'd recommand this hotel.
We stayed at the Jolly Carlton in August for 3 nights. We took advantage of a stay three nights only pay for two offer. The location of the hotel is fantastic; it is within easy walking distance from practically anywhere. As a bonus it is easily accessible from Central Station (about a 15 minute walk), which saves a fortune in taxi fares to, and from the airport. The room we got was large and with all the amenities you could possibly need - even the minibar prices were reasonable. The staff were polite and helpful and the breakfast was plentiful. Overall a great hotel although in my opinion slightly over priced. That said though, I'd definitely go back there.
Will be at the Jolly Carlton the last week in October. I usually stay at the Barbizon Palace but desided to get a bit farthere from the red light district.
Does anyone have inco on the delux rooms at this hotel?
